Spain is one of the most tourist-friendly countries and its hospitality is also remarkable. If you are travelling through Spain, it is important not to miss the chance to dine at the El Celler de Can Roca. This is one of the best restaurants of the world and one of the top in entire Europe that was opened in 1986. The restaurant is a heaven for the foodies especially who want to have traditional Spanish dishes. The restaurant was introduced by three brothers named Joan, Joseph and Jordi, all of them belong to Roca family.
The restaurant has received positive criticisms extensively for its outstanding service and menu. It has also achieved the title of best restaurant for the standards it maintains. The cuisine of the restaurants is very creative and it houses a great wine cellar that contains over 50,000 bottles. The dishes are served in an extraordinary manner that attracts the visitors most.
The El Celler de Can Roca was firs established beside the main restaurant of the family and the responsibilities are shared with the three brothers according to their expertise. The older one of the brothers, Joan Rocais is playing the role of the chief cook (or chef), his younger and middle one, Joseph Roca is assigned with the sommelier and the little one, Jordi Roca is responsible for preparing desserts. In fact the brothers were inspired to form a restaurant following their restaurant business undertaken by their parents. The brothers are well educated and devoted themselves for the sake of the restaurant. They also appeared on professional cooking programmes in Harvard University to bring perfection in their business.
Currently the restaurant is located on custom made building and the former site is also used for the restaurant staffs. The restaurant is simple and gorgeous with its wooden floors and tables (each of the tables is decorated with three stones to symbolize the contribution of the three brothers). The kitchen in the restaurant is comparatively a larger one where about over 25 chefs can work or cook together without causing any trouble to anyone’s work. The restaurant is able to accommodate 45 guests at a time.
To prepare the dishes, the Roca brothers prefer the locally available ingredients and the ingredients are combined with some non conventional techniques like molecular gastronomy. Serving the caramelised olives on bonsai tree is the other attractive technique of the restaurants. There is a fusion of traditional dishes. The guests are offered with small snacks packages after their arrival on the El Celler de Can Roca and the flavors are collected from different parts of the world. The foods are also influenced with different nations.
Most importantly the desserts and some specific dishes are based on perfume fragrances of few special brands. Thus, a perfume is emitted from the served dishes that increase the taste of the specific food. Besides, the restaurant has a large collection of red and white wines which are stored on the custom made wine cellar of the restaurant.
The most notable standout dishes of El Celler de Can Roca are:
- Charcoal-grilled king prawn,
- King prawn sand,
- Ink rocks,
- Fried legs,
- Head juice
- King prawn essence
