History of Fatehpur Sikri, Agra:

Indian most visited place the Fatehpur Sikri’s history makes, dates back to the 16th century of the Mughal era. Surrounded with a melancholy air, and still showing off its attractiveness. Mughal emperor Akbar built the Fatehpur Sikri, which is a beautiful architecture building. Sheikh Salim Chishti, who was a Sufi, lived in this village. Akbar was so much happy, and as a commemorate, he built a grand mosque at the Saints dwelling.   

Then the Emperor decided to transfer his capital in Fatehpur Sikri. He built this lavish complex, in 1571, and lived with his wives and son. Also made the Buland Darwaza, which is a mosque at the main entry gate. He had chosen the word Fatehpur, from the Persian word Fatah, which means victory. He completed the city complex in 1585. He went to Lahore to make a deal with impending invasions. After some year, in 1601, he returned to Agra again. Ruled 14 years in Fatehpur Sikri, and then left the Fatehpur Sikri due to the water lacking’s. 

The saint Salim Sufi died, and gradually he lost interest in this complex. Fatehpur Sikri deserted by 1610. Fatehpur Sikri remained as the legendary court of Akbar’s courtiers and consisted of Tansen sang and wits of Birbal. Every monument of Fatehpur Sikri glowed along with the warm sun. 

Exploring the Fatehpur Sikri, Agra:

The Fatehpur Sikri located on a rocky ridge, west of Agra, Uttar Pradesh, in northern India. Now, this is the UNESCO World Heritage site. The Mughal emperor Akbar left this beautiful creation of architecture after 14 years ruled. To show respect to saint Sufi Salim Chishti, he built this creature. Many significant creatures also included in the Fatehpur Sikri, which also have significant value. The Buland Darwaza, Jama Masjid, Diwan-I-Khas, panch mahal, etc. are included in the Fatehpur Sikri. Every monument followed a unique blend of architectural views. 

The building is a cluster of red sandstone, and present at the center point of Fatehpur Sikri. Other buildings also made by following the Hindu and Islamic combo styles. Panch Mahal consists of Fatehpur Sikri, which has five great stories. 

Things to See in Fatehpur Sikri, Agra:

  • Buland Darwaza: In Urdu, Buland Darwaza means a significant gate, which is the 54-meter height from the ground. That built-in 1601, by Akbar emperor, who wanted to commemorate over Gujarat. Red sandstone with carved marble and the granite inlays were used as the Buland Darwaza elemental material. Present a historic religious inscription, at the main gateways.
  • Diwan-I-Khas: An impressive building, which is included in the Fatehpur Sikri. Lotus Throne or central tower is the main attractive thing in Diwan-I-Khas. This pillar or tower gives support to connect the four corners, like a walkway. This building used as a hall room for some special people or religious leaders. Those wanted to make a private audience with Akbar.
  • Birbal’s House: The building known an Birbal’s house is a two storeyed structure, complex in its arrangements and elaborate in its architectural ornamentation. The ground storey is made up of four rooms and two porches, while the upper storey is made up of two rooms and open terraces enclosed by screens.

  • Jodhabai Palace or Marium-uz-Zamani Palace: Mughal queen Jodhabai used this building for living. It was also considered the Emperor’s harem, where the women belonged with other women of the royal harem. Surrounded by the beautiful architecture of the Hindu Rajputana styles and the Islamic Mughal style.
  • Tomb of Sheikh Salim Chisti: This tomb built from 1580 to 1581 and an important building, which included in the Fatehpur Sikri. The Fatehpur Sikri has the mastery of white marble carvings and artistic stone carvings. The architecture of this building is the cross combination of Hindu and Mughal architecture. Surrounded by carves marble from all sides, which is known as Jaalis. A Sufi saint Salim Chishti lived, near the ridge of this city. This city inhabited as the primary center of the Sufi movement. 
  • Jama Masjid: Jama masjid is known as the central mosque built by Akbar, according to the Salim Chishti direction. The rectangular formed building, made with the red sandstone. The entire view decorated with stone carved Mirhabs or alters. Combining with the Islamic and Hindu architecture, made a prized collection of Mughal architecture.
  • Panch Mahal: followed by a pyramid structure and supported by 176 pillars. Each pillar different from one other by stone-carved meshes. The carvings of pillars indicate the women Zanana, who was located nearby. Sandstone used as the pillars element. These beautiful pillar structures are known as Badger or the wind Cather tower. Entertainment and enjoyment was the primary purpose of this building.

Visit the Fatehpur Sikri, at the time of cooler dry weather. From the month November to March is the best time to visit the Fatehpur Sikri. Open at 6.00 or from sunrise to 6.00 pm or sunset. Start your journey as early as possible, to avoid crowds and noise.

Fatehpur Sikri situated 40 km west from Agra. Reach the Fatehpur Sikri by Car driving is the best way from Agra. The Kheria airport, Fatehpur Sikri Railway Station, The Idgah Bus Stand are also the nearest point from the Fatehpur Sikri.

As an Indian tourist need to pay 35 INR. As the SAARC and BIMSTEC candidates also need the same as the Indian native. For a foreigner, tourist needs 550 INR to pay. Underage 15 children, need no entry fee to enter the Fatehpur Sikri.
