LaGuardia Airport Guide:

Though LaGuardia Airport is a small airport it has an enormous growth in passenger traffic. Around 20 million passengers visit this airport every year. Each day this airport serves flights from dozens of domestic airlines to thousands of passengers. It has flights to some international destinations too. It is a hub for Delta Airlines and American Airlines.

LaGuardia Airport has four passenger terminals: Terminal A, Terminal B, Terminal C, Terminal D. The name of Terminal A is ‘Marine Air Terminal.’ This waterside terminal is for overseas flights. Pan American Airways use this terminal for their flyboats or Clippers.

Terminal B or Central Terminal Building is a hub for American airlines. This terminal has four concourses with 40 aircraft gates. It is the largest terminal of this airport. A 600-foot walkway connects Terminal c and Terminal D. A pseudo-terminal in the Marine Air Terminal or Terminal A is for general aviation aircraft.

History of LaGuardia Airport:

Gala Amusement Park used to use the present site of this airport. In 1929, this place was a private flying field and its name was the Glenn H. Curtiss Airport. On October 15, 1939, New York City took over this place and dedicated as ‘New York City Municipal Airport’. In 1939 the name of this airport became ‘New York Municipal Airport-La Guardia Field’. This airport first opened commercially on December 2, 1939. In 1947, this airport became LaGuardia Airport after being leased to the Port Authority.

This airport is not as large or as easily accessible as John F. Kennedy Airport. It also lacks some modern airport facilities. But this airport features many helpful services to the traveler of New York metropolitan city. Some major renovation programs began in 2016, and this airport is still under construction. However, LaGuardia Airport is remaining open during the whole renovation and rebuilding process.
