History of Kuala Lumpur City Gallery, Malaysia:

The Kuala Lumpur City Gallery is an attractive tourist spot in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. About 3000 visitors pay visit to the museum every day round the year at the 30,000 square feet establishment. The museum building is an old one in Malaysia and was build during the colonial period. The Kuala Lumpur City Gallery building was built for administrative purposes of the new capital – Federated Malaya States of the then British Government and served the purpose until the independence of the country in 1957. It was also used as a printing house for the British government as the Government Printing facilities in Taiping was closed down.

Large printing machines were fetched at the building of the Kuala Lumpur City Gallery. The Press produced different government reports, books, and tickets for train till 1961. Later the building was used for the postal security bureau. Kuala Lumpur City Hall reconstructed the building and decorated it as the first public library of Kuala Lumpur. The design of the building was done after different principles and various special masonry materials including bricks, columns of plasters, cast irons etc. have been used in its construction.

Exterior design of the building represents the neo-Renaissance architecture and the windows are semi-circular with keystones of different styles. The columns of the building are made of cast iron for a better support. Interestingly, there is no front door at the Kuala Lumpur City Gallery and everyone is to enter using a small door. Roofs of the building have been changed following the climatic condition of the country in 1940.

Located at the heart of Kuala Lumpur, visiting the Kuala Lumpur City Center is very easy. The Gallery is accessible through different routes. Bus, taxi and Light Rapid Transport (LRT) are the best way to travel at the museum. You have to walk about five-minutes from the Masjid Jamek LRT Station to reach the gallery, and a few minutes from Pasar Sany Station. Besides, it is close to the Central Market of Kuala Lumpur. And you can ride on a taxi from any place of Kuala Lumpur.

Some Tips when you visit on Kuala Lumpur City Gallery, Malaysia:

During Taxi ride, ask the driver to run the meter. Photography is allowed but flash photography is discouraged. There is no porch or large entrance at the building. You are to use the little one at the corner. Maps, souvenirs are available at the ARCH store adjacent to the building. Foods are disallowed inside the museum and keep silence. Use the free WIFI service inside the gallery building.

The Kuala Lumpur City Gallery is opened seven days a week round the year from 9.00 am to 6.30 pm. There is no entry fee for admission at the gallery. The gallery building is a must visit heritage and contains many historical buildings and events of the country. Inside of the building is pillar-free and pillars are made of cast irons for a longer durability which also aimed to create space for the printing machines. The gallery is run and maintained by The ARCH Collection Sdn. Bhd- which is a Malaysian collectables and gift item producer.

You can catch a taxi from anywhere around town to go to KL City Gallery

By Rail:

RapidKL LRT : Stop Masjid Jamek Station (ST5 – Ampang Line) or Pasar Seni Station (KJ14 – Kelana Jaya Line), then take a 5-7 minutes walk toward Merdeka Square.
KTMB Komuter : Stop at Kuala Lumpur Station (KA02), then take 6-10 minutes walk towards Sultan Abdul Samad Building.

By Bus:
Hop On Hop Off Bus : Stop at No. 17 Merdeka Square (Dataran Merdeka).
