What to expect

Air Niugini (IATA: PX, ICAO: ANG) is the national airline of Papua New Guinea, headquartered in Air Niugini House at Port Moresby International Airport. From Port Moresby it flies to 22 domestic and ten international destinations, and it is the airline most visitors use to reach Papua New Guinea from Australia and Asia and to travel between its provinces.

National carrier since 1973 and its owners

Air Niugini was founded in November 1973 as Papua New Guinea's national carrier. The government held 60% of the shares at the start, and the Australian airlines Ansett, Qantas and TAA held the rest. By 1980 the government owned the airline outright. Alan Milne is chief executive and Karl Yalo chairman.

Port Moresby hub and Australian routes

Port Moresby is the hub for the whole network. International routes reach Brisbane, Cairns and Sydney in Australia, Manila, Singapore, Hong Kong and Tokyo. Domestic flights connect the capital with provincial towns across the mainland and the islands. Link PNG, a subsidiary launched on 1 November 2014, flies smaller provincial and district routes that do not need a jet.

Destinations frequent flyer programme

Air Niugini's loyalty programme is called Destinations. Members earn points on Air Niugini flights and use them for award travel. The airline is not part of a global alliance.
