What to expect

Air Tahiti Nui (IATA: TN, ICAO: THT) is the international flag carrier of French Polynesia, with its head office and hub at Faaʼa International Airport in Papeete, Tahiti. It flies Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners from Tahiti to Los Angeles, Paris, Tokyo Narita and Auckland, with Sydney returning in December 2026, and it suits holidaymakers flying to Tahiti from North America, Europe, Japan and New Zealand.

Built for tourism

Air Tahiti Nui was established on 31 October 1996 and flew its first service on 20 November 1998. It was set up to bring more visitors to French Polynesia. The Government of French Polynesia owns 84.4% and is the parent company, and local investors hold the rest.

Papeete hub and the Los Angeles stop to Paris

Papeete is the single hub. The Paris route currently stops in Los Angeles, so the same flight serves both travellers from California and those coming from France. In the past Paris flights also made technical stops in Vancouver and Pointe-à-Pitre. Tokyo Narita links Tahiti with Japan, and Auckland links it with New Zealand. Flights to Sydney are due to resume on 14 December 2026. Earlier routes to Seattle, New York JFK and Osaka have ended.

The record Paris flight

In March 2020 an Air Tahiti Nui Boeing 787-9 flew non-stop from Papeete to Paris Charles de Gaulle, about 15,715 km in 15 hours and 45 minutes. French Bee later flew a longer distance.

Connecting to the islands

Onward flights from Papeete to Bora Bora, Moorea and other islands are run by Air Tahiti, the domestic airline. The two companies have a codeshare agreement, which makes it possible to book the international and island flights together.
