What to expect

Corsair (Corsair International) is a French long-haul airline flying from Paris Orly Airport to the French overseas territories, the Indian Ocean and West Africa. It suits travellers visiting family or on holiday in Guadeloupe, Martinique, Réunion or Mauritius, and those flying between France and Abidjan, Dakar or Cotonou. It was set up by the Corsican Rossi family as Corse Air International and made its first flight on 17 May 1981.

Where Corsair flies

Orly is the hub, and some routes also start from Bordeaux, Lyon, Marseille and Nantes. In the Caribbean Corsair serves Guadeloupe and Martinique. In the Indian Ocean it flies to Réunion, Mayotte, Mauritius (Port Louis) and Antananarivo in Madagascar. African routes include Abidjan, Dakar, Bamako and Cotonou. The network has also included French Polynesia and New Caledonia. Earlier routes to Canada, Cuba, the Dominican Republic and the United States have ended.

From charters to scheduled flights

Corsair started with charters only. The travel company Nouvelles Frontières bought it in 1990 and renamed it Corsair, and scheduled services began in 1999. TUI Group took over Nouvelles Frontières in 2000, and between 2005 and 2008 the airline flew as Corsairfly. It became Corsair International in 2012. In 2019 TUI sold a majority stake: the German investor Intro Aviation holds 53 percent, TUI 27 percent and employees 20 percent. The headquarters is listed in Baie-Mahault, Guadeloupe, and company records also show an address in Rungis near Paris.

The Air Austral joint venture and SNCF rail links

Corsair is not part of a global alliance. It formed a joint venture with Air Austral on Indian Ocean routes in 2021, works with SNCF on combined train and air journeys, and takes part in easyJet's Worldwide by easyJet connection scheme.

Booking early for French school holidays

Flights to the Caribbean and the Indian Ocean fill up in French school holidays, so book early if your dates are fixed. If you are coming from elsewhere in France, ask about the SNCF train and air option. Check the baggage allowance for your fare on flycorsair.com, since it differs between fare types.

Expect the allowance on Corsair to change with distance and cabin: higher cabins include more than basic economy on the same flight. Look up your route on the baggage page of flycorsair.com.

Pro tip: weigh your bags at home before leaving for the airport; extra weight on Corsair usually costs more at the counter than when you add it online.
