Defqon.1 guide
Defqon.1 suits hard dance fans who plan to camp. Q-dance has confirmed 24 to 27 June 2027 at Biddinghuizen, the return after the 2026 edition ended early in extreme heat. Buy only through the official shop, fix the Power Hour and endshows in your timetable first, and pack for both heat and cold nights.
Defqon.1 is the hardstyle festival run by the Dutch promoter Q-dance, and for four days each June it fills the event grounds beside the Walibi Holland theme park at Biddinghuizen, in the reclaimed polder country of Flevoland. Fans call the site the Holy Grounds, and they arrive from more than 100 countries.
The music is hard dance in all its strands: classic hardstyle, rawstyle, euphoric, uptempo, hardcore and, more recently, hard techno. Each of these has its own colour-coded stage, so the programme reads less like a single bill and more like a map you plan a route through.
What people remember are the rituals. The Red stage carries the big moments, from the Saturday afternoon Power Hour to the endshows of fire, light and pyrotechnics that close Saturday and Sunday nights. Most of the crowd camps on site, which turns the weekend into a small temporary town.

Hotels near the venue fill up around the event dates.
After 2026, heat is the risk everyone talks about. The grounds are flat and open, with little natural shade.
Most visitors sleep on the campsite, and a little preparation makes the weekend far easier.
Buy tickets only through official Q-dance channels; resale offers on social media are a common scam. Dutch law and the organisers take drugs seriously, and anyone caught with them is removed.
Campers arrive ahead of the music to pitch tents and settle in.
The indoor Blue stage opens the weekend.
The Red stage hosts a featured Spotlight set alongside a full programme across the colour stages.
The Red stage tradition that draws the whole field together.
Fire, light and pyrotechnics close each night on Red, with Legends sets on Sunday.
Tickets go through the official Q-dance shop, with weekend and weekend-plus-camping options. Camping is how most people do Defqon.1: the campsite opens before the music starts and the weekend feels incomplete without it. If you prefer a bed, you will need to arrange transport back from the grounds late each night, because Biddinghuizen is a small village with limited accommodation.
Once the timetable is out, mark the fixed points first: The Gathering on Thursday, the Power Hour on Saturday afternoon and the endshows on Saturday and Sunday. Build the rest of each day around them. For more on the country, see our Netherlands travel page.
Q-dance launched Defqon.1 in 2003 on the Almeerderstrand, a beach by the water at Almere, and held it there until 2010. In 2011 it moved to the larger grounds at Biddinghuizen, where it has stayed ever since, and the move let it grow from a one-day event into the multi-day camping festival it is today. It became four days long in 2022.
Along the way it picked up its own vocabulary: the colour-coded stages, the Power Hour, Legends sets on Sunday and the endshow, a closing spectacle of fire and light. Editions in Australia and Chile spread the name abroad for a while, but the Dutch event has always been the centre.
The festival is often described as the largest hard dance gathering in the world. Its 2026 edition will be remembered for ending early in record heat, and 2027 is the return.
Amsterdam Schiphol is the main international gateway, with trains onward to Lelystad and Harderwijk.
The nearest stations are Lelystad Centrum and Harderwijk; Biddinghuizen itself has no railway station.
Q-dance usually sells shuttle and travel options from stations and cities; book them with your ticket.
Paid parking is available near the grounds, but traffic around Walibi builds sharply on arrival day, so allow extra time.
Camping on site is the default and the easiest option, since it removes the nightly journey home. Biddinghuizen is a village with very few beds, so hotel guests generally stay in Lelystad, Harderwijk or Amsterdam and rely on pre-booked transport.
If you camp, arrive early on opening day for a better pitch and an easier walk to the gates.
Late June in Flevoland is usually mild. The 1991-2020 normals for Lelystad give June an average high of 20.4°C and a low of 10.8°C, about 67 mm of rain over roughly 10 days and around 213 hours of sunshine.
Averages hide the extremes: the 2026 edition ended early in record heat, while cold, wet nights in a tent are just as possible.

Timing & weather
Q-dance has confirmed Thursday 24 June to Sunday 27 June 2027, at the usual site in Biddinghuizen. Line-up and full ticket details were still to follow as of October 2026.
A Saturday afternoon set on the Red stage built from a rapid run of anthems, one of the festival's long-standing traditions. Get to the main field early if you want a decent spot.
Since 2011. Before that it took place at the Almeerderstrand beach in Almere, also in Flevoland, from 2003 to 2010. Q-dance has an agreement to stay at the Biddinghuizen grounds until 2032.
General
The 2026 edition was ended early after the Netherlands issued its first ever code red warning for extreme heat, and the authorities judged the conditions too dangerous for visitors and emergency services. Q-dance later released the endshow, recorded without an audience.
Red is the main outdoor stage for headliners and the endshows. Blue is the main indoor stage, mostly rawstyle, and opens the weekend with The Gathering on Thursday. Black is hardcore, UV is euphoric and uptempo, Yellow is uptempo hardcore and frenchcore, Indigo is raw and extra-raw, Magenta plays the classics, Purple showcases newcomers and Green is hard techno.
Not at present. An Australian edition ran at the Sydney International Regatta Centre in Penrith from 2009 to 2018, and a Chilean one near Santiago in 2015 and 2016. Both were discontinued.
Yes, the festival grounds sit beside the park, but a festival ticket does not include entry to the rides. Treat them as two separate outings.
Q-dance, the Dutch promoter behind the festival since its first edition in 2003. It handles the ticket shop, the official travel and stay packages and the festival app, so its channels are the ones to trust for any announcement.
Booking
Ticket holders who bought through the official Q-dance shop were offered a choice between a 2027 ticket and a full refund. Travel and stay packages and other add-ons could not be rolled over and were refunded automatically.
Recent editions have drawn well over 250,000 visits across the four days. The 2025 edition counted 268,236.
More than 300 across the nine stages since the festival grew to four days in 2022, which is why most regulars build a personal timetable in the app before they arrive.
