What to expect

Domestic Airlines (IATA SF) is an Algerian airline that flies only within Algeria. Known until July 2025 as Tassili Airlines, it is now a wholly owned subsidiary of the flag carrier Air Algérie, based at Houari Boumediene Airport in Algiers. It links the capital and the northern cities with oil towns and Saharan destinations, and suits business travellers in the energy sector and visitors heading to the desert regions of the south.

Tassili Airlines, the oil industry airline

Tassili Airlines was founded on 4 March 1998 as a joint venture between the national energy company Sonatrach, with 51 per cent, and Air Algérie, with 49 per cent. Its first commercial flight, from Hassi Messaoud to Algiers, took place on 8 April 1999.

In its early years the airline served the oil and gas industry, flying staff between the north and the fields of the Sahara on charter and shuttle flights, before moving into scheduled service. Sonatrach later raised its share to 76 per cent. A sister company, Tassili Travail Aérien, handled aerial work, medical evacuation and agricultural flights. The airline joined the African Airlines Association, AFRAA, in 2014.

The 2025 change to Domestic Airlines

On 19 June 2025 all shares passed from Sonatrach Holdings to Air Algérie. On 3 July 2025 the airline became Domestic Airlines, with a new livery and a clear job: to fly Algeria's internal routes and free Air Algérie's mainline fleet for international flying. The first flight under the new name took off on 22 August 2025, and full scheduled service began on 25 August. It keeps its own air operator's certificate and works as Air Algérie's regional division. Sidahmed Tazka is interim managing director.

Destinations across Algeria

As of January 2026 Domestic Airlines served 20 airports, all in Algeria. In the north these include Algiers, Oran, Constantine and Annaba. In the south it flies to Hassi Messaoud, In Amenas and In Salah in the oil regions, and to Saharan towns such as Tamanrasset, Djanet, Illizi, Tindouf and Bordj Badji Mokhtar.

Distances between the southern towns are long, so the flights matter to residents, oil workers and visitors alike.

Booking and travel tips

Domestic Airlines is not part of an alliance. If your trip starts abroad on Air Algérie, check whether the domestic sector is booked on the same ticket so bags go through to your final stop. For trips to the far south, check your government's travel advice before you go.
