Georgian Airways is the flag carrier of Georgia, a privately owned airline flying from Tbilisi International Airport to cities in Europe, Israel, Armenia and Russia. It suits travellers who want a direct flight into Tbilisi from western Europe or Tel Aviv, and people heading to Georgia's Black Sea coast at Batumi.
The airline was founded in September 1993 as Airzena and became Georgia's flag carrier in 1999. In the early 2000s it leased two Boeing 737-500s from Hapag-Lloyd, its first modern Western jets, and in August 2004 it took the name Georgian Airways. The head office is in Tbilisi.
The last few years have been difficult. Russia banned flights to Georgia from July 2019 until May 2023, cutting what had been a large market. Flights continue.
Tbilisi International Airport (TBS) is the hub. The airline's own website lists Amsterdam, Berlin, Paris, Vienna, Rome, Milan Bergamo, Nice, Forli and Larnaca in Europe, plus Tel Aviv, Yerevan, Moscow, Saint Petersburg and Novosibirsk, and a domestic route to Batumi. Some routes, including those to Armenia and France, are sold jointly with other carriers and are not always flown with Georgian Airways' own aircraft. Many routes do not run every day, so check the weekly schedule before fixing your dates.
Fares shown on the website in late 2026 started at about 92 euros one way for Tbilisi to Batumi, and from about 180 to 220 euros one way for Vienna, Paris, Berlin, Amsterdam and Rome. Prices change with demand, so treat these as a guide only.
Georgian Airways is not part of any global airline alliance, and we found no frequent flyer programme on its website. Connections with other airlines usually need a separate ticket, so plan a generous gap if you change airlines in Tbilisi or in Europe.
The Georgian Airways website, in Georgian, English and Russian, sells tickets in fare families and has a compare page that shows what each fare includes. Online check-in and seat selection are available, and extra baggage can be bought through the baggage section. The airline lists special services for unaccompanied children, expectant mothers, passengers with reduced mobility and travellers with pets, and these need to be requested before the flight. The phone number for the call centre in Tbilisi is +995 322 111 220.
AirlineRatings gives Georgian Airways six stars out of seven for safety.
Travel tip: Georgia announced that from 1 January 2026 visitors must hold travel insurance with set minimum cover when they enter the country, so check entry rules before you fly to Tbilisi. If you want the cheapest fare, check the compare page first, because the lowest fare family may not include a checked bag.
