What to expect

Israir is an Israeli airline based at Ben Gurion International Airport in Tel Aviv, flying scheduled and charter routes to Europe, some routes to Asia and Africa, and domestic flights inside Israel. It is now the country's second-largest airline after El Al, and it suits travellers looking for low-cost style fares between Israel and European cities.

From Kanfei HaEmek to Israir and its owner

The company started in 1989 as Kanfei HaEmek and took the Israir name in 1996. It was put up for auction in 2020, and it is now wholly owned by the Rami Levy group. During the COVID-19 pandemic Israir overtook Arkia to become Israel's second airline. It employs about 350 people, and its head office is in Tel Aviv.

Israir's business model is often compared to the American airline JetBlue: low-cost style fares, with paid extras, on a full network of scheduled routes. Beyond airline flights, the company runs VIP flights and an air taxi service.

Where Israir flies

Ben Gurion International Airport (TLV) is the base. Wikipedia lists 19 destinations, most of them in Europe, sold as a mix of scheduled flights and charters for tour operators. Israir announced a Tel Aviv to Madrid route from 25 October 2026. Domestic flights and air taxis use Ben Gurion and Ramon Airport, which replaced the old Eilat Airport for flights to Israel's Red Sea resort.

The biggest change is a planned route to New York JFK. The US Federal Aviation Administration approved Israir to fly to the United States in August 2026, and the airline will use Airbus A330 wide-bodies on the route.

Smartwings codeshare and no alliance

Israir is not in an airline alliance. Its codeshare partner is the Czech airline Smartwings. We did not find a frequent flyer programme in the sources we checked.

Flying from Ben Gurion

Security screening at Ben Gurion often takes longer than at other airports, so arrive with plenty of time and keep your passport and booking reference ready.

Travel tip: schedules in the region can change at short notice, so check your flight status on the Israir website on the day before you travel.
