What to expect

LATAM Airlines Ecuador is the Ecuadorian member of the LATAM Airlines Group, flying from Quito and Guayaquil to cities across Ecuador, the Galapagos Islands and neighbouring Colombia. It suits visitors heading to the Galapagos and travellers moving between Ecuador's main cities.

From LAN Ecuador to LATAM

The company's legal name is Aerolane Lineas Aereas Nacionales del Ecuador. It was set up in July 2002 as LAN Ecuador and began flying on 23 April 2003 with two Boeing 767-300ERs on international routes. Domestic flights were approved in December 2008 and began by April 2009 with the Airbus A318. On 5 May 2016 the LAN and TAM airlines adopted one shared brand, and the Ecuadorian company became LATAM Airlines Ecuador.

The shares are split between the Ecuadorian company Translloyd, with 55 per cent, and LATAM Airlines Group of Chile, with 45 per cent. The head office is in Quito.

Hubs and routes

Quito's Mariscal Sucre International Airport and Guayaquil are the hubs. Domestic flights link them with Cuenca, Manta, El Coca and the Galapagos. In the Galapagos, LATAM serves Seymour Airport on Baltra Island and San Cristobal Airport. Wikipedia lists nine destinations, including Bogota in Colombia. Routes to Loja and Madrid have ended.

International LATAM flights from Ecuador to cities such as Lima, Santiago and Miami are sold on the same LATAM website as the domestic routes.

Leaving oneworld and the group's current partners

LATAM Airlines Ecuador was part of oneworld from 2007, as an affiliate of LAN, until LATAM left the alliance in 2020. The group now works with Delta Air Lines, and codeshare partners of the Ecuadorian airline include Delta, Iberia and Air Nostrum.

Flying to the Galapagos

Flights to Baltra and San Cristobal leave from the mainland hubs. The islands are a protected national park with their own entry formalities and biosecurity rules, so check the current requirements with the Galapagos National Park and LATAM before you travel.

Travel tip: LATAM sells several fare brands, and checked bags, seat selection and changes depend on the fare. Compare the options on the LATAM website before paying, and check in online to save time at Quito or Guayaquil.
