Luxair is the flag carrier of Luxembourg and the only airline in the country that runs regular scheduled passenger flights. All its flights start at Luxembourg Airport, close to Luxembourg City, and serve about 95 destinations in Europe, North Africa, the Mediterranean and the Middle East. It suits business travellers heading to and from Luxembourg and holidaymakers from the Grand Duchy and the nearby border regions.
Luxair's roots are in Luxembourg Airlines, set up in 1948. The present company was created in 1961 and began flying on 31 March 1962. Its head office is in Munsbach, near the airport. The State of Luxembourg holds 52.04 per cent of the shares directly and about 75 per cent in total through state-owned bodies. Lufthansa sold its 13 per cent stake to the state in November 2015.
In 2022 Luxair had a turnover of 683 million euros, a net profit of 67.1 million euros and 3,118 employees. That year it became the first airline to paint an aircraft in a rainbow livery for Pride Month.
Luxembourg Airport (LUX) is the base. The scheduled network links Luxembourg with major European cities for business travel, and many seasonal routes go to holiday destinations around the Mediterranean, North Africa and beyond. Some routes run only in summer or winter, so check the timetable for your dates. Luxair has codeshare agreements with Air France, Lufthansa and Turkish Airlines.
