Walk to "7"
Follow the pier to Richard Serra's tall steel sculpture for skyline views.
Wrapped around the Museum of Islamic Art on Doha's Corniche, MIA Park offers lawns, cafés, a play area and Richard Serra's 24-metre steel sculpture 7 looking over the bay. It is free and open 24 hours, while the museum next door keeps its own hours and shuts on Wednesdays. Families and evening strollers typically spend one to two hours.
MIA Park is a free, 24-hour waterfront park of about 290,000 square metres around the Museum of Islamic Art at the southern end of the Doha Corniche. It is known for Richard Serra's steel sculpture 7 and sunset views of West Bay, and it suits families, picnickers and anyone visiting the museum or Souq Waqif.
The museum opened in 2008, and the park around it opened to the public on 6 January 2012, adding one of the few large green spaces in central Doha that runs along the water.
The park's best-known feature is 7 by the American sculptor Richard Serra. Seven steel plates, about 24 metres high, lean together to form an open polygon at the end of the pier, and you can look through the gaps towards the museum and the skyline. It was Serra's tallest vertical sculpture at the time, and the number seven refers to its significance in Islamic culture. The work was cleaned and restored in 2021.
In April 2025 Qatar Museums added Privileged Points by the artist Nairy Baghramian, a work exploring space, balance and material in relation to the museum setting. Climbing on artworks is not allowed.
Curving lawns, palm-lined paths, cafés and a children's play area make the park popular for picnics, kite flying and evening walks. The MIA Park bazaar began in 2012, paused in 2022 and returned in late February 2023, and its schedule changes by season. Markets, festivals and National Day events are also held here. The views across the water to the West Bay towers are best around sunset.
