The Slate is a 185-room, 25-acre beach resort at 116 Moo 1, Nai Yang Beach, in the north of Phuket, Thailand, next to the protected Sirinat National Park. Phuket International Airport (HKT) is close by, so it suits families and couples starting or ending a Thai trip, and anyone who wants a design-led resort on a quieter beach.
The beach is 400 m from the rooms, and Sirinat National Park begins 1.3 km away. Mai Khao Beach is 1.9 km north and the Airport Viewpoint 3.2 km. Splash Jungle Water Park and Blue Canyon Country Club are each 4.7 km away. The airport sits about 2.8 km away as the crow flies, or 7.9 km by road. Transfers cost extra and should be booked with your arrival details. Boat Avenue Mall and Bang Tao Night Market are 14 to 15 km south, and parking, including valet, is free.
Architect Bill Bensley designed the resort as a tribute to Phuket's tin-mining past and the Na-Ranong family. Raw metal, timber and industrial fittings sit alongside bold colour and artwork in the public spaces and rooms.
Of the 185 rooms, 94 are 65 sqm Pearl Bed Suites. D-Buk Family Suites have terraces, Private Pool Suites have plunge pools, and there are Pearl Shell Suites too. The pool villas start at 650 sqm and come with a butler, a sauna and a steam room. Rooms look over the garden or a pool.
The Lagoon Pool is for families and has an infant pool beside it. The Pulley Pool, with a swim-up bar, and the Snakeskin infinity pool are for guests aged 14 and over. All pools open from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM.
Black Ginger, Rivet & Rebar, Tin Mine, the Underground Café and Tongkah Tin Syndicate cover dining, and in-room dining runs 24 hours. Coqoon Spa, Ondigo Gym and the Kru Precision Wellness centre look after adults.
The MICHELIN Guide gives The Slate one MICHELIN Key. Black Ginger, the signature Thai restaurant, sits on its own island in the lagoon and guests cross to it by raft. The resort has cut single-use plastics from rooms and public areas, offers linen reuse, composts food waste and buys organic and local produce for its kitchens. It is about half an hour's drive from Phuket's busier beach towns.
