The road up to the restaurant is the same winding route that fort visitors use, so a taxi or hired car is the simplest way to arrive. Jaleb Chowk is the fort's main courtyard.
The setting is the main draw. Tables are laid in an open courtyard or in two decorated rooms, the frescoed Suvarna Mahal and the mirrored Sheesh Mahal, lit by candles and torches. Arrival is ceremonial, with a red carpet and a shower of flowers. The Sheesh Mahal room is private and seats only a handful of guests, so it books up first for special occasions.
The Rajasthani thali arrives on gold-coloured plates and covers the region's classics: dal baati churma, gatte ki sabzi, ker sangri, and both laal maas (red mutton curry) and safed maas (white mutton curry). From the à la carte menu Time Out picks tandoori lamb and chicken with Mathania chillies, Jodhpuri gatta, panchmel dal and shahi tukda with saffron and cardamom. Time Out puts a meal for two at about ₹4,000 without alcohol.
The restaurant opens Monday to Saturday from 11:00 to 23:30 and Sunday from 12:00 to 22:30, according to Time Out. Amer Fort closes to general visitors in the early evening, so dinner must be arranged with the restaurant, and entry details confirmed when you book. Reserve by phone on +91 141 253 0293 or through Zomato, at least a week ahead in peak season and at weekends.
A late-afternoon tour of the fort followed by dinner works well, and the drive down passes the illuminated walls.
