Asiatique Sky
Ride the wheel at dusk.
Asiatique The Riverfront is an evening shopping and dining complex on the Chao Phraya, south of the Saphan Taksin bridge in Bangkok, opened in 2012 in the restored dock warehouses of the East Asiatic Company. It has about 1,500 shops and stalls and a 60 m Ferris wheel. Entry is free; the wheel and shows cost extra. Allow two to three hours.
Asiatique The Riverfront lies on the east bank of the Chao Phraya River along Charoen Krung Road, south of the Saphan Taksin bridge in Bangkok. It opened on 27 April 2012, developed by TCC Land, and has been managed by Asset World Corporation since 2019.
The site was once the Bangkok docks of the East Asiatic Company, a Danish trading firm founded in 1897 that shipped teak and other goods from Siam to Europe. The new complex kept the style of the old warehouses, and several original buildings and a restored pier remain along the river.
Around 1,500 shops and stalls and about 40 restaurants fill the warehouse halls, which are grouped into zones. Stalls sell clothes, handicrafts, home decor, souvenirs and gifts, while the restaurants along the waterfront serve Thai and international food. Asiatique Sky, a Ferris wheel 60 metres high, gives views over the river and the city lights, and the Calypso Cabaret show is staged on site.
The atmosphere is closer to a night market than a mall, and most of the activity starts in the late afternoon and continues until around midnight. Prices are higher than at local street markets but fixed in many shops.
Entry is free, while the Ferris wheel and shows charge separately. The easiest way to arrive is by the free shuttle boat from Sathorn Pier, beside Saphan Taksin BTS station, which runs in the afternoon and evening. Sunset is a good time to arrive, to see the river in daylight before the lights come on.
The East Asiatic Company's oldest surviving warehouse dates from 1907, and the port closed in 1947. Asiatique covers about 4.8 hectares, with plans to grow to 11.5 hectares as a mixed-use development, and it was seen as a replacement for the Suan Lum Night Bazaar, which closed in 2010. In July 2026 Asset World Corporation announced an 8 billion baht investment that includes a cable car across the Chao Phraya River.
The site is divided into four districts. Chareonkrung District holds the Calypso Cabaret theatre and handicraft shops; Factory District has fashion and restaurants; Town Square has international restaurants, sports bars and an event space; and Waterfront District has the riverside restaurants and Asiatique Sky, at 60 metres the tallest Ferris wheel in Bangkok. The riverside promenade runs for 300 metres. Moored beside it, the Sirimahannop, a replica of the merchant barque Thoon Kramom, is now a fine-dining restaurant.
Look out for relics of the docks, including an old sawmill, a World War II bomb shelter and bronze maritime statues, and a tram modelled on Bangkok's old tram system that runs in the car park. Drivers can use parking for about 2,000 cars, but the boat from Sathorn Pier avoids the evening traffic on Charoen Krung Road.
