Banyan Tree AlUla is a 47-villa desert resort in the Ashar Valley (Wadi Ashar), off Tabuk Road in AlUla, north-western Saudi Arabia. Tented villas sit among sandstone cliffs, dunes and rock formations, and the resort suits couples and families who want quiet desert scenery, stargazing and tours of AlUla's oasis, old town and the Nabataean tombs of Hegra.
Al Manshiyah Plaza is 1.3 km away and Maraya, the mirrored concert hall, 2.6 km. The AlUla Oasis is 4.4 km. AlUla International Airport (ULH) is about 51.8 km by road, 45 minutes to an hour by car, and the resort arranges transfers for a fee. Parking is free, and bicycles are free to use around the valley.
The villas have high canopied ceilings and handcrafted, Arabian-inspired antiques, with views over the canyon. The Dune One Bedroom Villa and Dune One Bedroom Pool Villa each cover about 77 sqm with a king bed, a bathroom patio and an outdoor fire pit; only the pool version has a private pool. The 138 sqm Dune Two Bedroom Pool Villa sleeps four and the 240 sqm Dune Three Bedroom Pool Villa six.
Harrat is the all-day restaurant, serving Arabic and international dishes, and breakfast is à la carte. Saffron, Banyan Tree's signature Thai restaurant, opens for dinner.
The Rock Pool is an infinity-edge pool set in a crevice between two canyon walls. Pools open from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM and, like the health club, are for guests aged 16 and over. The Banyan Tree Spa uses locally inspired ingredients, and there is a gym.
Banyan Tree AlUla opened in October 2022. It was the first internationally branded five-star hotel in the AlUla district, the first all-villa resort there and the first Banyan Tree in Saudi Arabia. From the Ashar Valley it is a short drive to Hegra, the country's first UNESCO World Heritage Site, and to the old Dadan kingdom sites. Evenings at the resort are set up for stargazing over the valley.
