Casa del Rio Melaka

Casa del Rio Melaka is a five-star riverside hotel at 88 Jalan Kota Laksamana, on the bank of the Melaka River in historic Melaka, Malaysia. HPL Hotels & Resorts manages it. With 66 rooms and suites and Jonker Street a few minutes away on foot, it suits couples and families exploring the old town.

The only hotel on the Melaka River

Casa del Rio opened in 2011 and is the only hotel on the banks of the Melaka River. Its architecture borrows from Arabic, Portuguese and Dutch styles, with magenta, yellow and ochre walls and wrought-iron railings. Every room has a balcony over the river or the inner courtyard, known as the lago, and bathrooms open to the room through sliding screens. The hotel has an infinity pool and a spa.

Walking distances to the heritage museums and Jonker Street

The Melaka River Cruise ticket counter is about 120 m away. The Malacca Heritage Centre is about 130 m, the Baba & Nyonya Heritage Museum about 160 m, the Jonker Street Night Market about 290 m, Jonker Walk about 320 m and The Stadthuys about 390 m.

Reaching Melaka from Kuala Lumpur and Singapore

Kuala Lumpur is about 150 km away and Singapore about 250 km by the North-South Highway. Most overseas visitors fly into Kuala Lumpur International Airport and continue by car or bus. Malacca International Airport (MKZ) is about 9.3 km away, and the nearest railway station, Pulau Sebang/Tampin, about 37 km. Parking is available at the hotel.

River-view rooms and the two-bedroom residence

Rooms are decorated in a Mediterranean-inspired style. Deluxe Lago and River View rooms are the entry level, and Studio King rooms give more space. The two-bedroom River Suite, the two-bedroom Cheng Ho Suite with a living area over the river and St. Paul's Hill, the two-bedroom Melaka Suite with a private courtyard and cold-water jacuzzi, and a Presidential Suite complete the range. Rollaway beds cost MYR 175 per night when available, and cots are not provided.

River Grill, River Café and the spa

The River Grill and River Café are the hotel's restaurants. Afternoon tea is served by the pool, and the hotel runs a Saturday market stall by the river. Breakfast is a buffet with Asian dishes, free for children aged 5 and under, MYR 35 for ages 6 to 11 and MYR 69 from 12. Satkara Spa offers treatments.
