Conrad Maldives Rangali Island is a five-star, 151-villa resort spread over two islands, Rangali and Rangalifinolhu, in the South Ari Atoll of the Maldives, joined by a long footbridge. It opened in 1997 and was renovated in 2023. Most guests arrive by seaplane from Malé, a flight of about 30 minutes. Couples come for the undersea restaurant, and families come for the kids' club and beach villas.
Sunrise Water Villas of about 86 m² face east over the lagoon. Premier Water Villas with a pool reach around 152 m², and two-bedroom Grand Water Villas sleep families. Beach villas sit on the sand. All villas are non-smoking, with a minibar, daily housekeeping, free Wi-Fi and sea views.
Ithaa opened in 2005 as the world's first undersea restaurant. It sits about five metres below the surface, under a curved acrylic shell that gives diners a view of the reef on all sides, and it seats only 14 guests per sitting, so book it as soon as your dates are fixed. The Maldivian architect Ahmed Saleem designed it with the New Zealand engineer Mike Murphy. Around a dozen other venues include the Sunset Grill, UFAA by Jereme Leung for Chinese cooking, KOKO Grill, the Atoll Market buffet and a wine cellar.
The buffet breakfast runs from 7:00 AM to 10:00 AM. When it is not included, it costs about USD 60 for guests aged 13 and over and USD 30 for children aged 6 to 12, and children 5 and under eat free.
The same team went on to build The Muraka, unveiled in November 2018 as the first hotel residence with a bedroom beneath the ocean. Its master bedroom lies about 16 feet below sea level. The three-bedroom residence covers about 550 m² and sleeps up to eight. The underwater section, roughly 600 tonnes, was built in Singapore, shipped to the Maldives and lowered onto the seabed by crane.
There are three outdoor pools, one of them adults-only, each with a pool bar. The full-service spa, a gym and a tennis court are on site. The Ocean Dive & Sport Centre, about 150 m from the main area, runs diving, snorkelling, surfing and sailing. Bicycles are free to use.
The kids' club has a children's pool and playground, and childcare costs extra.
The nearest domestic airport is Villa International Airport Maamigili, about 20 km away.
