An all-glass dining room about 5 metres under the lagoon at Conrad Maldives Rangali Island, open since 2005. Set lunch and dinner menus at fine-dining prices make it a once-in-a-trip splurge.
Ithaa Undersea Restaurant is an all-glass dining room about 5 metres below the lagoon at Conrad Maldives Rangali Island, in Alif Dhaal (South Ari) Atoll. Opened in 2005 and widely described as the world's first all-glass undersea restaurant, it serves set lunch and dinner menus and suits couples planning a once-in-a-trip splurge.
Diners walk along a jetty to a pavilion and take a staircase down into a curved acrylic tunnel. Reef fish, rays and sometimes sharks pass the walls during the meal. Most visitors reach the resort by seaplane from Velana International Airport near Malé. Rangali Island keeps its clock one hour ahead of Malé time, so check which time your booking uses.
The cooking is contemporary European, served as set menus with wine pairings available. Seating is limited to a few tables, so the room stays quiet. Shoes are left at the entrance. The dress code is smart casual: collared shirts with tailored shorts or trousers for men, and elegant resort wear for women.
The resort lists breakfast from 08:00 to 09:30, a visiting hour from 11:00 to 12:00 for those who want the view without a full meal, lunch from 12:30 to 15:00 and dinner from 18:30 to 21:30. Ithaa opens only on several days a week, so ask for operating days when you book. Dinner is for guests aged 14 and over.
Prices are published on the resort's day-pass page. Lunch is US$365 and dinner US$450 per adult. Private use of the whole restaurant costs US$4,500 for lunch and US$6,300 for dinner. All rates carry a 10% service charge and 17% TGST, and exclude transfers. Outside visitors book through Conrad Maldives, and the resort asks everyone to arrive 15 minutes early. Private dining, weddings and special occasions can be arranged.
Lunch has brighter light through the water than a late dinner, so a midday slot gives the clearest view of the reef.
Conrad lists 14 seats per service, and its dining page names Maldivian lobster and Wagyu beef among the signature dishes on the tasting menus. The dress code is listed simply as smart casual.
