A Sarkies hotel
The Sarkies Brothers, who later founded Raffles in Singapore, established the hotel in 1885. Their Eastern Hotel opened in 1884 and merged with the Oriental Hotel in 1889, which gave the hotel its double name. The present Victory Annexe is a 132-room tower that replaced the old annexe in 2013. The hotel lies within the George Town UNESCO Core Zone, listed in 2008.

All 232 rooms are suites, split between two wings. The Heritage Wing is the original building, restored and reopened in December 2019 with new facilities. The Victory Annexe opened in 2013 on the site of the first annexe, unveiled in 1923. Extra beds cost MYR 413 per night, paid at the hotel.
Java Tree, Palm Court and Sarkies
Java Tree serves classic European dishes and Palm Court serves Asian and international food and afternoon tea. Sarkies, in the Victory Annexe, runs a Malaysian and international buffet. Planters Lounge serves continental dishes, and the poolside terrace is for meals outdoors. Farquhar's Bar is a vintage cocktail bar with water views. Breakfast is a buffet with Asian dishes; it is free for children aged 5 and under, MYR 58 for ages 6 to 12 and MYR 88 from 13.
