Four Seasons Resort Bali at Sayan is a five-star resort of 60 suites and villas on Jl. Raya Sayan, in the Ayung River valley about 3.7 km west of Ubud Palace. Guests cross a bridge over the valley to a lotus pond on the roof of the main building, part of a "rice bowl" design by the architects Heah and Co. It opened in February 1998 and suits couples, families and anyone who wants rainforest and rice terraces close to Ubud.
The resort has 18 suites and 42 villas. Duplex suites run over two floors with a sun terrace, and family suites sleep up to four. One- and two-bedroom villas have private outdoor living space, and the riverfront villas add a private pool above the Ayung. The two-bedroom river-view villas cover about 427 m² and sleep six.
Extra beds and cribs can go into every room type. Cribs are free for children aged 2 and under, and extra beds cost about IDR 2,041,875 per person per night, paid at the hotel.
Ayung Terrace is the open-air treetop restaurant, serving modern Indonesian cooking at breakfast, lunch and dinner. Riverside, down by the water, cooks Mediterranean dishes from Italy, Spain, France, Lebanon and Greece. Sokasi seats only eight people around an open kitchen for a seven-course Balinese dinner, so book it before you arrive. Jati Bar, a teak lounge above the valley, serves barrel-aged cocktails, light meals and afternoon tea. Breakfast is à la carte and covers Western, Asian, Japanese, Chinese and Balinese dishes, with vegetarian and gluten-free choices.
The Sacred River Spa covers about 4,970 m² beside the river, with seven treatment villas and two yoga pavilions. The two-level main pool sits by the river, and the gym has a whirlpool, sauna and steam room. The resort arranges private rafting on the Ayung, Mount Batur sunrise treks, Kintamani bike rides and classes at the Sokasi Cooking School, and a free shuttle runs into Ubud every day. The Pici Pici Kids Club runs daily from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM, and childcare can be arranged for an extra charge.
Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS) is about 35 km to the south-west, and central Ubud is 6 km away. Transfers can be booked for a fee.
