Hua Hin's small airport fronts Phetkasem Road about 7 km north of town, 15 to 25 minutes away. Thai AirAsia flies to Chiang Mai and EZY Airlines to U-Tapao, but there are no flights to Bangkok, where the coach from Suvarnabhumi takes about 3 hours. The terminal closes overnight.

Hua Hin Airport is a quiet regional terminal with only a few flights a week. This guide explains who flies here, when the building is open, and how to get into Hua Hin or on to Cha-am.
Please note: Flights, hotels near the airport and car hire with driver on this page can be booked directly on bookingMentor. We list places on merit, and bookings never affect what we say about them.
What to expect
Hua Hin Airport (HHQ) lies on Phetkasem Road about 7 km north of Hua Hin town, on the border between Prachuap Khiri Khan and Phetchaburi provinces. It opened in 1961 and is run by the Department of Airports. The site also hosts a flight training centre and the Royal Rainmaking Centre, and the single 2,100 m runway can take A320-size jets.
Scheduled traffic is light. Thai AirAsia flies to Chiang Mai several times a week, and EZY Airlines, a small Thai carrier flying Cessna Grand Caravan turboprops, started a service to U-Tapao for Pattaya in late October 2026. There are no scheduled flights to Bangkok; most visitors still arrive by road from Suvarnabhumi or Don Mueang, around three hours away. The airport handled just over 63,000 passengers in 2025.
International flights, 2026: In July 2026 the Ministry of Transport, the Department of Airports, Thai AirAsia and the Tourism Authority of Thailand began work on restoring direct Hua Hin–Kuala Lumpur flights, which carried more than 130,000 passengers between 2018 and 2020. The government has asked for runway safety problems to be fixed to Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand standards first, so no start date has been set.
The terminal is a single, compact building of about 7,200 m² with a café, car rental and taxi counters, and first aid. It is not open around the clock: the airport operates from about 06:00 to 18:00. Plan to arrive, collect your bag and leave.
The 1961 opening, past international routes and growth plans
Hua Hin opened on 3 February 1961 and sits 19 m above sea level on the boundary between tambon Hua Hin and tambon Cha-am. It has had international links before: Berjaya Air flew from Kuala Lumpur's Subang airport, but as of July 2026 there are no international flights. Traffic in 2025 amounted to 63,230 passengers and 447 aircraft movements, both lower than the year before.
A larger airport has been planned for years. In August 2018 the government announced a 3.5 billion baht upgrade over five years, linked to the "Riviera Thailand" coastal tourism plan and the Southern Economic Corridor, with the aim of a tenfold rise to about three million passengers a year. The plan included a bigger terminal and a second terminal, more hangar space and widening the runway from 35 m to 45 m, since the runway safety area is below what ICAO recommends.
Landside and airside
Landside is the public check-in and arrivals area of the single terminal. Airside is the departure lounge after security. The building is small, and there is little to do on either side.

The airport fronts Phetkasem Road, the main road through Hua Hin, about 7 km north of the centre. Traffic is light except at evening peak and on holiday weekends.

TerminalRoong Reuang, near the airport

Security & safety
Hua Hin Airport is small and calm. The main things to watch are transport prices and the early closing time.
1Confirm the fare firstTaxis here are not metered. Agree the price before you load your bags.
2Mind the closing timeThe terminal closes in the evening. If your flight is delayed late into the day, keep in touch with the airline rather than planning to wait inside.
3Carry cashThere is no bank at the airport, and songthaews and many taxis take cash only.
Pro tip: if you are arriving from Bangkok by coach for a flight from Hua Hin, the Roong Reuang terminal is close to the airport, so you can skip the trip into town entirely.

About 7 km north of the town centre along Phetkasem Road, a drive of 15 to 25 minutes.
Thai AirAsia flies to and from Chiang Mai, and EZY Airlines began flights to U-Tapao (Pattaya) in late October 2026. Schedules here change often, so check with the airline before planning a trip around them.
Not at present. Travellers from Bangkok go by road or rail; the Roong Reuang coach from Suvarnabhumi takes about three hours and costs ฿269.
Not currently. AirAsia flew from Kuala Lumpur until 2020, and in July 2026 the Transport Ministry and Thai AirAsia began work on restoring that route, subject to runway safety upgrades.
The airport operates from about 06:00 to 18:00 local time. It is closed to passengers overnight.

We could not confirm one in the terminal, and the official airport listing places banks in town. Arrive with some baht for the taxi or songthaew.
