Niva Kurumba Maldives is a five-star, 180-room resort on Vihamanafushi in the North Malé (Kaafu) Atoll, about ten minutes by boat from Velana International Airport. It opened in 1972, bills itself as the Maldives' first private resort and was renovated in 2016. Niva is the resort brand of Versa Hospitality. Because the airport is only 4.2 km away, it works well for short breaks and for the first or last night of a longer Maldives trip.
Superior Rooms, the entry level, have a balcony with ocean views. Deluxe Bungalows stand in a coconut grove on the sand, and Beachfront Deluxe Bungalows, about 74 m², sit a few metres from the sea. Beach Villas are about 103 m². Both have a king bed, a minibar, a refrigerator and ocean views. Two-bedroom options and the Kurumba Residences suit families and groups. Everything is non-smoking and Wi-Fi is free.
Vihamana is the main restaurant. Thila, raised above the water, is open from 8:00 AM to 9:30 PM. Hamakaze, the Japanese restaurant, has an intimate counter and serves dinner only, from 6:30 PM to 9:30 PM, and a café adds lighter choices. FEZ is a shisha lounge and Kandu Bar, beside the water, handles drinks from 10:30 AM to midnight. Breakfast is served from 7:00 AM to 10:00 AM, with a buffet that covers Western, Asian, Japanese, Italian and Maldivian dishes plus Halal, kosher, vegan and gluten-free options.
Veli Spa sits about 100 m from the main area, alongside a gym and yoga. Its menu draws on Maldivian healing traditions, with couples treatments and facials. The larger residences have their own private pools. There is an outdoor pool, a children's pool, and tennis and basketball courts. The water sports centre, about 210 m away, runs snorkelling, kayaking and diving.
The kids' club and playground are free to use.
