What to expect

Pegasus Airlines is a Turkish low-cost airline headquartered in the Kurtköy area of Pendik, Istanbul, with its main base at Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen International Airport (SAW) on the Asian side of the city. It flies to 161 destinations in 57 countries across Turkey, Europe, the Middle East, Central Asia and North Africa, and suits travellers who want low fares and are happy to pay separately for bags, seats and food.

From charter airline to low-cost carrier

Pegasus began as a charter airline set up by the Turkish companies Net and Silkar with Aer Lingus of Ireland. The first flights took off on 15 April 1990 with two Boeing 737-400s. Aer Lingus and Net sold their shares to Yapı Kredi bank in 1994.

ESAS Holding bought the airline in January 2005 and two months later turned it into a low-cost carrier. ESAS remains the controlling shareholder with 52.81 percent. Pegasus floated 34.5 percent of its shares on Borsa Istanbul on 26 April 2013, where it trades as PGSUS. Güliz Öztürk has been chief executive since 1 May 2022.

How big is Pegasus?

Pegasus carried 37.4 million passengers in 2024, its highest figure so far and up from 29.8 million in 2019, before the pandemic. The fleet grew from 67 aircraft in 2015 to 131 in June 2026. In December 2025 it agreed to buy Czech Airlines and its sister company Smartwings for 154 million euros, a deal that completed on 1 October 2026.

Sabiha Gökçen base and other Turkish bases

Sabiha Gökçen is the main base and the place where most connections are made. Pegasus also keeps aircraft at Adana/Mersin, Ankara, Antalya, Bodrum, Dalaman, Ercan in Northern Cyprus, Istanbul Airport, İzmir, Kayseri, Samsun and Trabzon. This spread lets it run point-to-point flights from Anatolian cities straight to Europe, as well as through Istanbul.

Codeshares with Delta, KLM and others

Pegasus is not in a global alliance, but it has a wide set of partners. It codeshares with Delta, flynas, Iberia, ITA Airways, KLM, Nile Air, Qatar Airways and AirAsia, and has interline agreements with Air Canada, Air Transat, Emirates and Norse Atlantic.
