What to expect

Royal Air Maroc (RAM) is Morocco's national airline and its largest, wholly owned by the Moroccan state and based at Mohammed V International Airport (CMN) in Casablanca. It runs 134 routes in 45 countries across Africa, Europe, the Middle East, Asia and the Americas, and suits travellers connecting through Casablanca between West or Central Africa and Europe or North America.

How Royal Air Maroc began

RAM was formed in July 1953 by merging two companies, Compagnie Chérifienne de l'Air, known as Air Atlas, and Air Maroc. The Royal Air Maroc name came on 28 June 1957, the year after Moroccan independence, when the government held 67.73 percent. The first Boeing, a 727-200, arrived in 1970, and the first Boeing 787 in December 2014.

Who owns RAM?

The Moroccan state owns the airline. In 2018 it held 53.94 percent directly and 44.10 percent through the Hassan II Fund, with about 2 percent in private hands, including Air France and Iberia. The head office stands on the grounds of Casablanca-Anfa Airport, and Hamid Addou is chief executive.

Casablanca hub and links between Africa and Europe

Casablanca Mohammed V is the main hub, Tangier Ibn Battouta is a second hub and Marrakesh is a focus city. Casablanca works as a bridge, linking West and Central Africa with Europe and the Americas. In November 2023 RAM ran 134 routes to 45 countries, and it also flies domestic routes and seasonal Hajj flights.

oneworld membership since 2020

Royal Air Maroc joined oneworld on 1 April 2020 as its 14th member. It codeshares with partners including American Airlines, British Airways, Qatar Airways and Etihad Airways, so a single ticket can combine RAM with these carriers and earn miles in their programmes.

The plan to double the fleet

In June 2023 RAM announced a plan to double its fleet over ten years and open new European routes. In October 2023 it launched a tender for 200 aircraft within a decade, linked to growth in Africa and to Morocco co-hosting the 2030 FIFA World Cup.

RAM Express and RAM Cargo

RAM Express flies ATR 72-600 turboprops on domestic and short regional routes, and was the launch customer for the type in 2011. RAM Cargo carries freight. Atlas Blue, a former low-cost subsidiary, was folded into the main airline in 2011.

Baggage allowance

RAM does not give every passenger the same allowance: the route, the cabin and the fare you buy each change it. Your AT e-ticket shows what you have.

Allowances depend on route, cabin and fare; routes to Africa and the Americas often have a piece-based allowance. Check your e-ticket.

Pro tip: Many RAM itineraries involve a connection in Casablanca. Allow enough transfer time, especially when changing between international and domestic flights, and check the baggage allowance for your fare on royalairmaroc.com before you fly.

Online Check-in

RAM check-in comes down to four steps, from checking in online to dropping your bags at Mohammed V International.

  • Online check-in available
  1. Step 1

    Check in online

Online check-in for AT flights is on the official RAM website or app. You need the AT booking reference or e-ticket number and the passenger’s surname.

    Booking ref + surname
  2. Step 2

    Prepare your documents

International RAM passengers need a passport and whatever visa, residence permit or entry documents the destination requires. Domestic AT passengers should bring a photo ID the airline accepts.

    Passport · visa · ID
  3. Step 3

    Arrive early

Get to the airport with time for RAM check-in, bag drop and security. The airline sets a deadline for each airport, shown in your booking, and late arrivals can lose their seat.

    Well before departure
  4. Step 4

    Drop your bags

At the airport, take your bags to the RAM bag-drop point. Collect a printed AT boarding pass there if you have not saved one to your phone.
