Sunset Beach in Umm Suqeim, Dubai, is a free public beach with a direct view of the Burj Al Arab, popular for swimming, sunset photos, surfing and night swimming. Entry is free, though parking is paid. It suits families and photographers.
Sunset Beach is a public beach in the Umm Suqeim 1 area of Jumeirah, Dubai, on the Arabian Gulf. It lies just north of the Jumeirah Beach Hotel and the Burj Al Arab, and is sometimes called Umm Suqeim Beach or Burj Al Arab Beach.
The beach is part of the long stretch of public coastline managed by Dubai Municipality between Jumeirah and Umm Suqeim. Facilities include lifeguards, showers, toilets, changing cabins, a few cafés and a jogging track.
The main draw is the view of the Burj Al Arab rising from the sea a short distance to the south, which makes the beach one of the best known places in the city to photograph the hotel at sunset. The sand is soft and the water is generally calm and shallow. The beach is popular with local surfers when there are waves. Dubai Municipality has designated Umm Suqeim 1 among the beaches where night swimming is allowed in lit areas.
Entry is free and the beach is open around the clock, with paid parking along the road behind it. Swim only in areas with lifeguards and follow flag warnings. Modest swimwear is expected, and visitors should follow local rules on behaviour and dress when leaving the beach.
Umm Suqeim is a residential area of western Dubai split into three parts, Umm Suqeim 1, 2 and 3, bordered by Jumeirah to the north and Al Sufouh to the south. Sunset Beach sits in the first of these, while the Burj Al Arab, the Jumeirah Beach Hotel and Wild Wadi Water Park are in Umm Suqeim 3, which is why the hotel fills the view to the south from the sand.
The beach is a short walk from Umm Suqeim Park, a public park with play areas and lawns that makes a good shaded break for families with young children. Jumeirah Beach Road runs behind the beach, with cafes and small shops on the inland side, and Souk Madinat Jumeirah is a few minutes south by taxi.
Getting there without a car means a taxi or ride-hailing car, as the nearest Dubai Metro stations on Sheikh Zayed Road are a long walk inland. Arrive about an hour before sunset to find parking along the beach road, which fills quickly on Fridays and Saturdays.
