Dubai's sail-shaped hotel is closed for restoration from April 2026 for about 18 months, with reopening reported for October 2027. When open it offers 198 duplex suites with private butlers on its own island. The listed rate starts at US$1,600; check dates before planning a stay.
Temporarily closed: Jumeirah Burj Al Arab, the sail-shaped hotel off Jumeirah Beach Road in Umm Suqeim, Dubai, closed in April 2026 for a phased restoration of about 18 months led by French interior architect Tristan Auer. Gulf News reports that the hotel is expected to welcome guests again in October 2027, though Jumeirah has not fixed an exact day. Jumeirah is moving guests with existing bookings to its other Dubai hotels, such as Jumeirah Al Naseem and Jumeirah Al Qasr.
The tower stands on its own island, linked to the shore by a private bridge, and has been part of the Dubai skyline since December 1999. All 198 suites are duplexes with private butlers. Before the closure they ranged from One Bedroom Suites of about 170 sqm and Panoramic Suites of about 225 sqm to Club Suites of about 330 sqm, Two Bedroom Suites of about 335 sqm and the Diplomatic Three Bedroom Suite of about 670 sqm.
Artisans are restoring around 70 to 80 per cent of the existing décor, including the gold leaf, Statuario marble and Swarovski crystal. The entrance aquarium and lobby stay as they are. The spa is being redesigned, and the suites get discreet technical upgrades.
Al Mahara, Al Muntaha, Al Iwan, Sahn Eddar, Bab Al Yam, Gilt, SAL and the Sky View Bar operated before April 2026, along with the Burj Al Arab Terrace with its pools and beach club, a spa, a gym and a kids' club. Check the hotel's website to see which venues return.
Wild Wadi Waterpark is 440 m away and Jumeirah Beach Hotel 530 m. Madinat Jumeirah and Souk Madinat are 940 m away. Mall of the Emirates is 4.2 km, Palm Jumeirah 5.8 km and Burj Khalifa 10.9 km. The nearest metro stop, Insurance Market, is 4.6 km away. Dubai International Airport (DXB) is about 30 km by road.
Until the closure, check-in was from 4:00 PM and check-out by 12:00 PM, the main guest had to be 21, and a deposit of AED 4,000 per night was taken. Breakfast was free for children aged 3 and under. Pets and service animals were not allowed. These rules may change on reopening.
This is the first major restoration since the hotel opened in 1999, and it covers the interiors, the suites, the restaurants and the leisure facilities. With the restaurants shut along with the rooms, the best view of the sail for now is from the beach at Umm Suqeim or from Madinat Jumeirah next door. If you want to stay with the same group on this stretch of coast, Jumeirah Al Naseem, Jumeirah Al Qasr and Jumeirah Marsa Al Arab are the closest options. Recheck the date before booking a 2027 stay, since restoration timetables often move.
