Stay inside Sharjah's restored heritage quarter: The Chedi Al Bait spreads about 65 rooms across old houses and courtyards, close to the museums and souqs. It suits culture and architecture trips, with a courtyard pool, a hammam spa and free parking. Rooms cost from US$140 a night.
The Chedi Al Bait is a five-star heritage hotel in the Heart of Sharjah, the restored old quarter of Sharjah in the UAE, opened in 2019 by GHM. Its 65 or so rooms and suites fill restored traditional houses and new buildings around shaded courtyards, and it suits travellers who come for culture, architecture and Sharjah's museums and souqs.
The Al Eslah School Museum is 100 m from the hotel, Masjid Al Zahra 220 m and Souq Al Shanasiyah 240 m. Bait Al Naboodah and the Sharjah Theater for the Performing Arts are both 270 m away. Sharjah International Airport (SHJ) is about 18 km by road, roughly 23 minutes by car. The closest Dubai Metro stop, Stadium, is 13.4 km away. Parking and valet are free.
Heritage rooms keep original features such as high ceilings, timber beams and deep-set windows. Suites add separate living areas and bigger bathrooms, and some suites in the Khalid Ibrahim house have private patios or plunge pools.
The Restaurant serves an international menu beside an open-air courtyard. NOMANI mixes Japanese and Korean cooking, and The Café sits beneath a restored wind tower. Breakfast is à la carte with Western dishes.
The outdoor pool is set in a courtyard. The spa has separate areas for men and women, each with a sauna, steam room and hammam, and there is a gym. Bait Ibrahim Al Midfa holds a library and a small museum about the house and the Al Midfa family.
Sharjah is a dry emirate, so no alcohol is served anywhere in the hotel. The name comes from bait, the Arabic word for house, and the restored homes once belonged to the Al Midfa family, with their wind towers, carved wooden screens and shaded courtyards linked by narrow corridors. NOMANI looks over Sharjah's Creek Harbour. A direct passage leads to Souq Al Arsa, a renovated covered market with antique shops, and guests can borrow books from the library. The maze of courtyards suits adults and older children better than toddlers.
