Just off Wangfujing Street in central Beijing, about 1.9 km from the Forbidden City, The Peninsula offers large rooms for sightseeing and shopping. Facilities include a 12-room spa with thermal bathing, a glass-roofed indoor pool and Cantonese dining at Huang Ting. Rooms are listed from US$451.
The Peninsula Beijing is a five-star hotel at 8 Jinyu Hutong in the Wangfujing area of Dongcheng District, Beijing, about 30 m from Wangfujing Street, the city's best-known shopping street. The Palace Museum (Forbidden City) is about 1.9 km away. It suits travellers who want large rooms, a central base for the imperial sights and shopping on the doorstep.
The hotel opened in May 1989 as The Palace Hotel and was one of China's first luxury hotels. A renovation of about US$123 million, finished in 2017, turned it into an all-suite hotel and doubled the size of the rooms. Jinyu Hutong, its street, translates as Goldfish Lane.
Dengshikou subway station is about 320 m away and Jinyu Hutong station about 410 m. Tiananmen Square is about 3.7 km and Beijing Railway Station about 2.9 km. Beijing Capital International Airport (PEK) is about 29 km by road, around 40 minutes by car.
A major renovation cut the hotel from more than 500 rooms to 230 larger rooms and suites. Superior and Deluxe Suites are the entry level, and the Peninsula Suite measures about 660 m². Cribs are free for children up to 1. Extra beds are free for children aged 2 to 11 and cost CNY 467 per night for guests aged 12 and over. Wi-Fi in public areas is free.
Huang Ting serves Cantonese food in a setting modelled on a Beijing courtyard house. Jing offers Mediterranean-inspired, farm-to-table cooking, and The Lobby serves Peninsula afternoon tea. Breakfast is a buffet with Western, Chinese, Asian and vegetarian dishes.
The Peninsula Spa has 12 treatment rooms, thermal bathing facilities and a relaxation lounge. The indoor pool sits under a glass ceiling, and there is a fitness centre.
