What to expect

Wingo is a Colombian low-cost airline based in Bogotá, and it suits travellers flying between Colombian cities or from Colombia to Central America, Mexico and the Caribbean at a low base fare. It is the trading name of AeroRepública S.A., the company that held the Aero Republica IATA code P5, and it is owned by Copa Holdings, the parent of Copa Airlines. Eduardo Lombana is chief executive.

Copa announced Wingo on 19 October 2016 to replace most of the Copa Airlines Colombia business, which had lost US$29.7 million in the first half of that year. Wingo flew its first route, Bogotá to Cancún, on 1 December 2016 with four Boeing 737-700s.

Its bases are Bogotá, Barranquilla, Cali, Cartagena, San Andrés and Panama City. In Panama it uses Panamá Pacífico International Airport at Balboa, and a subsidiary, Wingo Panama, runs flights there. The network of about 23 destinations links Colombian cities with each other and with leisure and business destinations in Central America, Mexico and the Caribbean.

Key facts for travellers:

  • Type: low-cost carrier with a single cabin.
  • Fleet: nine Boeing 737-800s in August 2025, each with 186 seats.
  • Extras: checked bags, seat selection, food and drinks and priority boarding are sold separately from the base fare.
  • Loyalty: Wingo flights are linked to ConnectMiles, the Copa frequent flyer programme.
  • Ownership: part of Copa Holdings, which also owns Copa Airlines in Panama.

Travel tip: with Wingo the price you see first is the base fare. Before paying, decide which extras you need and add them during booking, as adding them later or at the airport costs more. Check the size and weight limits for your carry-on so you are not charged at the gate. If you fly to Panama, confirm which airport your flight uses.
