Al-Markazul Islami Hospital
Al-Markazul Islami Hospital is a charitable general hospital on Babar Road in Mohammadpur, Dhaka. It is run by Al-Markazul Islami, a Bangladeshi volunteer and welfare organisation founded in 1988 that also manages religious schools and an ambulance service and became widely known for burying Covid-19 victims during the pandemic.
Babar Road lies in the older part of Mohammadpur, a short distance from Asad Avenue. The organisation also owns property in Shyamoli and runs other branch facilities.
- General medical care for members of the public
- Free medical programmes run by the organisation, including services for visually impaired people and free cleft lip and palate surgery
- Free medical camps, such as those held during the 2024 floods
In April 2025 national newspapers reported that the organisation planned to treat injured patients from abroad at its Babar Road hospital and partner hospitals, which confirms the facility was in use that year.
Visitor tip: the hospital does not publish a website or hotline, so visit during daytime hours or ask locally in Mohammadpur for current outpatient times, and bring any previous prescriptions and test reports.
