Shark tank
Watch sharks glide past the big window.
Set into the Trocadéro gardens across from the Eiffel Tower, the Aquarium de Paris descends from an 1878 World's Fair aquarium and has a three-million-litre shark tank. Full price is about €26 for adults and €19 for children, sometimes less online. It opens daily at 9:30 AM, with last entry at 6 PM (8 PM on Saturdays). Plan 1.5 to 2 hours.
The Aquarium de Paris is a public aquarium set into the Trocadéro gardens in the 16th arrondissement, at 5 Avenue Albert de Mun, across the Seine from the Eiffel Tower. It shows sharks, jellyfish and reef fish from French coasts and tropical seas, and suits families with young children and anyone looking for an indoor stop near the Trocadéro.
The galleries are built into a former quarry in the slope below the Palais de Chaillot. According to the aquarium's own history, the first aquarium on the site was built for the 1878 Exposition Universelle and was known as the Aquarium du Trocadéro. After years of decline it was rebuilt and reopened in 2006 under the name Cinéaqua, which some guides still use, and it now trades as the Aquarium de Paris.
The shark area is the largest tank, holding 3 million litres of water and visible from several viewing points. It is home to around 35 sharks of several species, along with giant groupers, moray eels and a school of nearly 4,000 small fish. Panels explain how many shark species have been described and how many are threatened.
Other tanks show jellyfish, reef fish, rays and species from the Mediterranean and the Atlantic. A touch pool lets children reach in under supervision, and the show hall and cinema rooms run films and seasonal shows that are included in the ticket. In autumn 2026 the show hall has some closures, so check the day's programme on arrival.
