In short

Yves Saint Laurent's former couture house on Avenue Marceau became a museum in 2017 and has been closed since May 2025 for renovation and expansion due to finish in autumn 2027. No tickets are sold during the works, so check the official website for the confirmed reopening date. Fashion lovers should expect about an hour once it opens again.

The Musée Yves Saint Laurent Paris is the museum of the fashion designer Yves Saint Laurent, in his former couture house at 5 avenue Marceau in the 16th arrondissement, between the Champs-Élysées and the Seine. It closed on 5 May 2025 for renovation and expansion and is due to reopen in autumn 2027. Once open, it will suit fashion lovers, and it pairs well with the Palais Galliera nearby.

Saint Laurent ran his haute couture house in this building from 1974 to 2002. The Fondation Pierre Bergé – Yves Saint Laurent turned it into a museum, which opened on 3 October 2017, a few weeks after the death of Pierre Bergé, the designer's partner and business associate. A sister museum opened in Marrakech the same year.

The foundation holds more than 5,000 garments and 15,000 accessories, with thousands of sketches, photographs and archive documents. Before the closure, exhibitions in about 450 square metres of gallery space rotated regularly. Displays usually explored one theme, such as the women's tuxedo, the safari jacket or his links with painters, setting finished garments beside sketches and fabric samples. The former salons, where clients attended shows and fittings, and Saint Laurent's preserved design studio showed how a couture house worked.

The works are led by Selldorf Architects with Studio La Boétie and are set to double the floor area and add a new exhibition route. The foundation is running exhibitions elsewhere in the meantime, and for the 2026 European Heritage Days it opened Saint Laurent rive gauche, which runs from 27 September 2026 to 15 June 2027. New ticket prices and opening hours will be published on the official site before the reopening, so check there for the confirmed date. Once open, allow about an hour.

The building has a lift, a bookshop and a cloakroom. Alma-Marceau on metro line 9 is about 300 metres away. The Palais Galliera, the Palais de Tokyo and Pont de l'Alma are each about 500 metres away, and the Champs-Élysées about 800 metres.
