Aspire Park is an 88-hectare green space in Doha's Aspire Zone, laid out around a lake beside the torch-shaped Aspire Tower, with lawns, playgrounds and jogging paths popular with families. It is free and open daily, though individual facilities keep their own hours. One to two hours is a typical visit.
Aspire Park is Doha's largest park, about 88 hectares of lawns, palms and paths around a lake in Aspire Zone, Baaya, on the west side of the city in Al Rayyan. Entry is free, and it suits families, joggers and anyone staying near Villaggio Mall or visiting the sports venues around it.
The park is built around an artificial lake, often described as the only lake in Qatar, a rare sight in a country without rivers or natural lakes. Fountains play on the water, lawns and many kinds of trees surround it, and a small hill on one side gives a view over the lake towards the sports venues. Aspire Tower reflected in the water is a favourite photo. Swimming in the lake is not allowed.
Paved loops around the lake and across the grass are used for walking, jogging and cycling from early morning to late evening, and there are outdoor fitness areas. Families come for the playgrounds and the space for picnics, and a coffee shop sells drinks and snacks. In summer many people visit after dark, when temperatures drop and the paths are lit. Aspire Zone also hosts sports events and community runs through the year.
The 300-metre Aspire Tower, known as The Torch, served as the giant torch for the 15th Asian Games, held in Doha in 2006, and now contains a hotel. Inside the park stands Perceval by the British artist Sarah Lucas, a life-size bronze of a Shire horse pulling a cart loaded with two oversized squash. Khalifa International Stadium is about 800 metres away and the 3-2-1 Qatar Olympic and Sports Museum about a kilometre.
