Gondola ride
Take a short gondola ride along the indoor canal.
Villaggio is Doha's Venice-themed mall in the Aspire Zone, opened in 2006, with an indoor canal, gondolas and the Gondolania entertainment park and ice rink. Walking in is free, but gondola rides and Gondolania cost extra. It opens at 9 AM and closes at 11 PM or midnight, depending on the day. Families usually stay two to three hours.
Villaggio Mall is an Italian-themed shopping mall on Al Waab Street in Aspire Zone, Al Rayyan, on the west side of Doha, known for its painted-sky ceilings and gondola rides on a 150-metre indoor canal. Opened on 7 June 2006, it has around 220 stores on one floor and suits families, shoppers and visitors pairing a mall trip with Aspire Park next door.
The interior is designed to look like a Venetian town. Ceilings are painted as open sky, shopfronts are dressed as old façades with balconies and shutters, and a canal runs along the main walkway. Gondolas carry visitors on short rides that are popular with families; tickets are sold at the desk.
About 90,000 square metres of space hold everything from high-street fashion to luxury labels, with electronics, home and beauty stores. Restaurants and cafés are spread throughout, many with tables facing the canal, and there is a food court and a cinema. Gondolania, the indoor theme park, has an Olympic-size ice rink (the only one of that size in Qatar), ten-pin bowling and a roller coaster, each paid separately.
Villaggio was built for the 15th Asian Games, which Doha hosted in 2006, and is owned by Abdul Aziz Mohammed Al-Rabban. The interior is styled as an Italian hill town. Its Olympic-size ice rink is one of two in Qatar and the home of the Qatar Ice Hockey League, so you may catch a game or practice session on the ice.
