In short

Eurowings is the low-cost airline of the Lufthansa Group, based in Düsseldorf and flying Airbus A320-family jets from bases across Germany and in Prague. Its network covers Germany, the Mediterranean, the Nordics and Eastern Europe. Fares split into BASIC and SMART Economy with BIZclass above, and cabin baggage depends on the fare. Points go to Miles & More.

Eurowings is the Lufthansa Group’s short-haul low-cost airline and one of the largest low-cost carriers in the German market.

What to expect

Eurowings is a German low-cost airline headquartered in Düsseldorf and wholly owned by the Lufthansa Group. It suits travellers on short and medium-haul flights from Germany and Prague to European cities and holiday destinations around the Mediterranean and the Canary Islands. It began flying on 1 January 1994 as a regional airline and was rebuilt as the group's point-to-point airline from 2014.

German bases and holiday routes

Eurowings flies from bases at Berlin Brandenburg, Cologne/Bonn, Dortmund, Düsseldorf, Hamburg, Hannover, Nuremberg, Prague and Stuttgart. The network has about 152 destinations, covering German domestic routes, European cities and leisure routes to the Mediterranean, the Canary Islands and other holiday areas. A Maltese subsidiary, Eurowings Europe, operates from bases in other European countries.

From regional airline to low-cost carrier

Lufthansa took control of Eurowings in 2005 and full ownership in 2011. In 2014 and 2015 it turned Eurowings from a regional carrier into a low-cost airline, and by October 2015 it had taken over the routes of Germanwings. Long-haul flights started in 2015, were cut back several times and ended in 2021, when the long-haul routes moved to the group's leisure airline, now called Discover Airlines, along with the Airbus A330s.

Low fares and add-on bundles

Eurowings sells low fares with hand luggage only and higher bundles that add checked baggage, seat choice or flexibility. Extras such as extra-legroom seats can be bought separately. Compare what each bundle includes before you pay, and add a checked bag during booking if you need one.

Miles & More and partners

Eurowings flights earn miles in Miles & More, the Lufthansa Group programme. Eurowings' own Boomerang Club was folded into Miles & More in May 2022. Codeshare partners include Lufthansa, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, SWISS, United and Singapore Airlines, and interline partners are Hahn Air, Scoot and SunExpress. That means a Eurowings flight can sit on the same ticket as a long-haul Lufthansa Group or partner flight.

Miles & More

The Lufthansa Group programme. Eurowings’ old Boomerang Club was merged into it in 2022.

Eurowings flights can earn Miles & More miles depending on the fare bundle, and the same account works across Lufthansa, SWISS, Austrian and other partners. Check the earning rules of your fare before you book.

Baggage allowance

Check your e-ticket for the exact Eurowings allowance. It is set by the fare type, the cabin and the route, whether you start at DUS or another airport.

Cabin bag only

Eurowings prices baggage by fare bundle. The cheapest fare includes only a small personal item, so add a cabin trolley or a checked bag in advance if you need one.

Pro tip: add bags when you book or in Manage Booking; paying for baggage at the airport is usually more expensive.
