What to expect

flydubai is a government-owned airline based at Dubai International Airport in the United Arab Emirates, flying Boeing 737s to about 131 destinations in the Middle East, Africa, Central and South Asia and Europe. It suits travellers on short and medium-haul trips from Dubai, and those connecting in Dubai to or from an Emirates flight on one ticket.

Founding in 2008 and the first routes to Beirut and Amman

flydubai was founded on 19 March 2008 and began flying on 1 June 2009, with first routes to Beirut and Amman. It belongs to the Investment Corporation of Dubai, the emirate's state investment arm. The chairman is Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, who also chairs Emirates, and the chief executive is Ghaith Al Ghaith. Emirates helped at launch, but flydubai is not part of The Emirates Group. Its slogan is Get Going.

The airline started as a low-cost carrier and added Business Class in 2013. In 2017 it became the first airline in the Middle East to fly the Boeing 737 MAX 8. In 2024 it carried 15.4 million passengers, reported revenue of 3.6 billion US dollars and a profit of 611 million US dollars, and had 6,089 employees.

Dubai hub and terminals

Dubai International (DXB) is the only hub. Most flydubai flights use Terminal 2, which is separate from Terminals 1 and 3. Since 2018 some flights have used Terminal 3, the Emirates terminal, to make connections between the two airlines easier. Check your terminal before you set off for the airport.

Codeshares and joint planning with Emirates

flydubai and Emirates codeshare and plan their networks together, so a single ticket can combine an Emirates long-haul flight with a flydubai flight to a smaller city, with bags checked through.
