In short

The Golden Mosque is the smaller of Katara Cultural Village's two mosques in Doha, its walls covered in thousands of small gold tiles and its golden minaret inspired by older Qatari mosques. It is free to see from outside and glows under evening lighting. As an active mosque, it is best visited outside prayer times. Twenty to 30 minutes is enough.

The Golden Mosque is a small, gold-tiled mosque in Katara Cultural Village, the arts and heritage district on the coast north of West Bay in Doha, Qatar. It is free to see from outside and suits visitors walking through Katara, especially in the evening when lighting makes the walls glow.

The smaller sister of Katara's Blue Mosque

It is the smaller of Katara's two mosques. The larger is the Katara Mosque, often called the Blue Mosque for its turquoise and purple tiles. Both are managed by the Katara Cultural Village Foundation, and visitors often pass them while walking between the amphitheatre, galleries and restaurants of the village.

Gold tiles, one minaret and kündekari doors

The walls are inlaid with thousands of small gold tiles that catch the sun by day and glow under lights at night. The single golden minaret stands by the entrance and follows the shape of older Qatari mosques. The wooden doors carry Ottoman-style kündekari, a technique of interlocking carved wooden pieces. Inside, the prayer hall and sanctuary are decorated with Arabic calligraphy and ornament. Turkish press reports credit the designer Zeynep Fadıllıoğlu with work on both Katara mosques, although Katara does not name a designer.
