Hello, How can We Help You?
The Aya Sofia mosque was originally built as a cathedral by the Byzantine Emperor Justinian I in the 6th century. It served as a center of Eastern Orthodox Christianity for almost a thousand years before being converted into a mosque by the Ottoman Empire in 1453. In 1935, it was declared a museum by the Turkish government and remained so until 2020 when it was converted back into a mosque.
The Aya Sofia mosque is widely regarded as one of the greatest architectural achievements in history and has inspired countless imitations and adaptations in architecture and art. It has also played a significant role in the history of both Christianity and Islam.
The Aya Sofia mosque is open for visitors every day except for Mondays, from 9 am to 5 pm during the winter season, and from 9 am to 7 pm during the summer season.
Visitors to the Aya Sofia mosque are required to dress modestly, covering their shoulders and legs. Scarves are also provided for women to cover their heads.
The admission fee for visiting the Aya Sofia mosque is 100 Turkish Lira for adults, and it is free for children under the age of 8.
