Hotel Granvia Kyoto is a four-star hotel built into the JR Kyoto Station building at the Karasuma central exit, run by JR West Hotels. Guests walk straight from the station concourse into the lobby. It suits rail travellers, families and anyone planning day trips to Nara and Osaka, since the Shinkansen, JR lines, the subway and the main city bus terminal are all on the doorstep.
The hotel has 541 rooms over 15 floors. Standard and Superior Rooms make up most of them. Triple and family rooms suit groups, universal rooms are designed for guests with reduced mobility, and the high-floor Granvia Floor rooms and suites sit at the top of the range. All rooms have premium bedding and free Wi-Fi. Cots are free for children aged 1 and under.
There are around nine restaurants. Le Temps is the café restaurant, and there is a view dining room, teppanyaki, Chinese and Japanese restaurants, Kyoto kaiseki by Minokichi and a tempura counter. A pastry and bakery shop sells takeaway. The Grand Jour lobby lounge and the Orbit main bar serve drinks. Breakfast comes as a buffet or a set menu, with Japanese and Western dishes.
An indoor pool with a sauna sits inside the fitness club.
The hotel is part of the Kyoto Station Building, which architect Hiroshi Hara designed for the city's 1,200th anniversary and which opened in 1997. The building is 70 m high and 470 m long, and under one roof it also holds a shopping mall, the JR Kyoto Isetan department store and a cinema. The Haruka limited express leaves from the same station for Kansai International Airport, which makes the hotel a practical first or last night in Japan.
