Directly opposite the Grand Théâtre in UNESCO-listed central Bordeaux, this 130-room hotel is made for wine trips: a concierge books vineyard visits and tastings. It also has two-Michelin-star Le Pressoir d'Argent and a Guerlain spa with an indoor pool. Rooms start from US$340 a night.
InterContinental Bordeaux - Le Grand Hotel is a five-star, 130-room hotel at 2-5 Place de la Comédie in Bordeaux, France, directly opposite the Grand Théâtre and the Opéra National de Bordeaux in the UNESCO-listed historic centre. With a two-Michelin-star restaurant, a Guerlain spa and a concierge team that books vineyard visits, it suits wine travellers, couples and families.
The building dates from 1789 and has been a hotel since 1904. Bordeaux Saint-Jean station is about a 20-minute walk. Bordeaux-Mérignac Airport (BOD) is about 15 km by road, around 30 minutes. Valet parking costs EUR 45 per day and must be reserved.
Jacques Garcia decorated the rooms and suites in a 19th-century-inspired style, with marble bathrooms, bathrobes and slippers. Classic Rooms measure 20 to 25 sqm and Premium Rooms 35 sqm, some with opera views or balconies. Above them are Junior Suites, Wine Bar Suites, a 50 sqm One Bedroom Suite that splits into two spaces for families, and the 100 sqm Royal Suite with its own entrance.
Le Pressoir d'Argent Gordon Ramsay holds two Michelin stars and is named after its rare Christofle silver lobster press. Le Bordeaux serves regional brasserie dishes. The Orangerie winter bar opens daily, and a seasonal rooftop bar looks over the city's roofs. The breakfast buffet is listed at EUR 38 per adult when not included.
Spa Guerlain Les Bains de Léa covers more than 1,000 sqm on the upper floors, with an indoor pool, sauna, hammam, fitness room and a terrace jacuzzi.
The Clefs d'Or concierges book restaurants, vineyard visits and private tastings.
Victor Louis, the architect of the Grand Théâtre across the square, began the building in 1789 as a private mansion for M. Sacriste de Rolly. The Café de Bordeaux opened on the ground floor in 1850, and in 1871 Victor Hugo gave a speech on the terrace of what is now the brasserie. The first hotel opened upstairs in 1904 and appeared in the MICHELIN Guide that year. It closed for refurbishment in 1990 and stayed shut for 17 years before reopening as the Grand Hôtel de Bordeaux in 2007.
