Mala is a small cove of fine pebbles and sand in Cap-d'Ail, near Monaco, reached down more than a hundred steps or along the coastal path. The public beach is free, and for the 2026 season it is listed as open from 9 AM until midnight. Couples and swimmers usually spend half a day.
Plage Mala is a small cove of fine sand and round pebbles in Cap-d'Ail, Alpes-Maritimes, on the French Riviera at the border with Monaco. Rocky headlands and wooded slopes shelter it, and day visitors from Monaco and Nice come for the clear water. It suits swimmers and snorkellers who can manage steps or a coastal path.
Part of the cove is public, by the lifeguard post, while two upscale beach restaurants, Eden Plage Mala and La Réserve de la Mala, run private areas with paid loungers. Eden Plage serves breakfast, lunch and dinner and has a shop, a spa and a boat shuttle. Water sports on offer include jet skis, towed buoys, flyboards, water skiing, wakeboarding and boat hire. Animals are not admitted.
The Escalier de la Solitude, more than a hundred steps beside the Belle Époque Eden residence, descends from near the station, signposted "Sentier du bord de mer". The Sentier du Littoral, the coastal path around the cape, reaches the cove from the Plage Marquet side near Monaco; it is about 2.5 to 3.6 km long depending on the starting point and steep in places on the descent to Mala. Some sections are exposed to waves and close in rough weather, when you have to go through the town to the stairs. Wear good shoes.
