Snorkel the points
Rocky ends of the bay have clear water for snorkelling.
At the eastern edge of Le Lavandou, Pramousquier is a beach of white and dark sand sheltered by Cap Nègre on the border with Rayol-Canadel-sur-Mer. It is free and open at all times, which suits travellers looking for a quieter bay on the Var coast. Half a day is enough.
Plage de Pramousquier is a 400-metre beach of fine, dark sand in the hamlet of Pramousquier, about 8 km east of Le Lavandou centre in the Var, on the D559 just past Cap Nègre. It is shared with neighbouring Rayol-Canadel-sur-Mer and suits families and anyone looking for a quiet bay below wooded hills, away from the town beaches. The tourist office nicknames it "La Mystérieuse".
The beach is harder to find than the other Lavandou beaches and is reached by small footpaths. Green hills and umbrella pines of the Massif des Maures come straight down to the sea, and Cap Nègre shelters the bay. On foot from the road, take the stepped path on the left of the D559 just after the Anse de Pramousquier residence.
The bay has public and private sections. Toilets, mattress, deckchair and pedal boat hire, water bikes and paddleboards are available in season, and beach restaurants such as Le Café de la Plage, Akwabô Beach and Tamaris Plage open in summer. The rocks at the ends of the bay are good for snorkelling on calm days. Outside the season options are limited, so bring a picnic.
About 3 km east, the Domaine du Rayol is a 20-hectare estate owned by the Conservatoire du littoral, with about seven hectares of gardens designed by the landscape architect Gilles Clément. The Jardin des Méditerranées takes visitors through landscapes from regions with a Mediterranean climate, including California, Chile, South Africa, Australia and the Canary Islands. It is open every day of the year for a fee. Closer by, the Nécropole nationale du Rayol-Canadel lies about 1.2 km away.
