Hello, How can We Help You?
Moinot Ghat (also spelled Moinot Ghat) is located on the banks of the Padma River in the Dohar Upazila of Dhaka District. It is essentially a ferry ghat (river crossing) on the Padma River. One side of the river belongs to Dohar, while the other side is in Faridpur District. People use Moinot Ghat to cross to Gopalpur in Faridpur.
The location was previously known for its ferry services, but now it has become a popular tourist destination. While it used to be somewhat hidden, Moinot Ghat is now a “hotspot” for day trips close to Dhaka.
Moinot Ghat has gained a new nickname: "Mini Cox’s Bazar." The beach next to the ghat resembles a sea shore, and the vast Padma River gives the impression of an ocean.
You can visit Moinot Ghat anytime, but the best time is during the winter. The river is calm, and the beach looks large during this time. This is when you can experience the true beauty of Moinot Ghat. There is also a sandbar in the river that is only visible during winter.
You can also visit during the rainy season, but the river will be full and quite turbulent. The current is strong, and the river merges with nearby wetlands, making it hard to distinguish between the river and the wetlands. The beach may not be as visible, so visiting during the rainy season might leave you disappointed.
Moinot Ghat is very close to Dhaka, so it is possible to go for a day trip and return in the evening. The easiest way to reach Moinot Ghat is by bus. A bus service called Jamuna Paribahan operates from Gulistan, near Golap Shah Mazaar, directly to Moinot Ghat. The fare is about 90 BDT (it may vary).
Alternatively, you can take a bus to Nabiganj or Dohar from Gulistan and tell the bus helper you’re heading to Moinot Ghat. They will drop you off near the location, from where you can take an auto-rickshaw to the ghat.
You can also travel from Mohammadpur in Dhaka to Atyabazar by tempo and then take a CNG to Konakhola. From there, catch a bus to Nabiganj or Dohar. However, it’s best to go in a group of 8-10 people and rent a microbus, which will be more cost-effective.
Currently, there are no hotels, resorts, or boarding houses for tourists near Moinot Ghat. It’s better to arrange to stay at a local resident’s house if possible. Otherwise, a day trip is ideal.
There are no high-end restaurants at Moinot Ghat, but there are some rice hotels where you can have lunch. A meal of rice with Padma River hilsa fish is a special treat here. It’s a good idea to negotiate the price based on the size of the fish. If you want a larger fish, you can ask the restaurant to arrange it for you. Other fish like boal, shrimp, and more are also available.
There are also small shops where you can buy snacks like chips, Coca-Cola, chocolates, bread, bananas, etc. If you have time, don’t miss out on the famous sweets of Kartikpur. Some renowned sweet shops are Niranjan Mistanno Bhandar, Muslim Sweets, and Ranjit Mistanno Bhandar.
