The Musée des Impressionnismes Giverny is a museum of Impressionism and its legacy at 99 rue Claude Monet in Giverny, the Normandy village where Monet lived and painted for more than forty years, about 75 kilometres north-west of Paris. It stands about 500 metres from Monet's house and water garden and opens seasonally from spring to autumn. It suits visitors on a Giverny day trip who want more art than the house alone offers.
The site began as the Musée d'Art Américain, set up in 1992 by Daniel J. Terra, founder of the Terra Foundation for American Art, because many American painters had come to Giverny to work near Monet. In 2009 a partnership between the Terra Foundation, the Eure department and the Musée d'Orsay turned it into the present museum, and local authorities in Normandy later took over ownership.
The museum studies the origins of Impressionism, its spread abroad and its later influence, with a strong link to American Impressionism. Its collection of nearly 300 works has been built through purchases, long-term loans and gifts, with Bonnard, Signac, Boudin and Caillebotte among the artists; a recent campaign targeted Eugène Boudin's Three-Masted Ship off Antwerp.
Two or three exhibitions a year fill the galleries. Past shows covered Pierre Bonnard in 2011, Gustave Caillebotte in 2016 and the Japanese painter Hiramatsu Reiji, whose work traces Monet's influence. In 2026 Daniel Buren's Plantations ran from 17 July to 1 November. The museum is now closed for the winter and reopens for the 2027 season with Bonnard-Vuillard. Abolir le hasard, from 26 March to 4 July 2027.
The garden, laid out in colour-themed beds with a poppy meadow, carries the Jardin remarquable label. A 1.5-hectare chalk grassland on the slope above is managed by the regional conservation body for natural sites.
The museum opens daily from late March or early April until early November, sometimes into January, from 10:00 to 18:00 with last admission at 17:30. It closes in winter. A full-price ticket costs €12 and a reduced ticket €9, with free entry for under-18s; Sunday guided tours cost about €6 extra. Allow about 90 minutes. Mornings are quieter, before the village fills. The museum is accessible and has a restaurant, a shop and parking.
Trains run from Paris Saint-Lazare to Vernon-Giverny, about 6 kilometres away; a shuttle bus, taxi or rented bicycle covers the rest. Monet's grave at the church of Sainte-Radegonde is about 700 metres from the museum.
