Bahrain's New Year's Eve happens on the Manama waterfront around Bahrain Bay, the centre of one of the most visible fireworks and drone shows in the Gulf. To welcome 2026, the Bahrain Tourism and Exhibitions Authority (BTEA) ran fireworks and a drone show at eight locations across the kingdom at the same moment, with 2,500 drones in the air, including 1,100 fire drones, and fireworks bursting up to 300 metres high. Add licensed hotel parties, waterfront restaurants and mild winter weather, and Manama becomes a strong New Year choice for travellers who want a festive night in the region.

You will find the bigger picture in our guide to the best places to celebrate New Year 2027 around the world.

This guide covers where to watch the midnight show in Bahrain on 31 December 2026, how to book a gala or a viewing table, how to get around on a night when the roads around Manama are busy, and what the local rules mean for visitors. Entry rules depend on your passport, so check the official eVisa portal before you book.

The countdown falls on Thursday 31 December 2026, with 1 January a public holiday. BTEA stages the midnight fireworks and drones over several sites, from Bahrain Bay to The Avenues and Seef. Licensed hotels, bars and restaurants serve alcohol. Days are mild and evenings by the sea are cool. Flights land at Bahrain International Airport (BAH) on Muharraq, and drivers arrive from Saudi Arabia over the King Fahd Causeway. Entry rules depend on your passport, so check the Bahrain eVisa portal. You pay in Bahraini dinars (BHD), and cards are widely accepted.

How Bahrain celebrates New Year's Eve

Bahrain is more relaxed than some of its neighbours, and New Year's Eve shows it. Hotels hold licensed parties with DJs and live bands, restaurants along the waterfront sell set menus with a view of the show, and families come out to the beaches and promenades to watch the sky at midnight. The atmosphere mixes residents of many nationalities with weekend visitors from Saudi Arabia who cross the causeway for the holiday.

The festive season starts earlier than in many places. National Day on 16 and 17 December fills the kingdom with flags and events, and the BTEA's winter calendar runs on through the end of the year, so the weeks around New Year are busy with concerts and outdoor festivals.

The causeway crowd shapes the whole weekend. The King Fahd Causeway, about 25 km long and open since 1986, links Al Khobar in Saudi Arabia with Al Jasra on Bahrain's main island, and queues at the border posts build on the evening before a holiday. In 2026, 31 December is a Thursday, the last working day of the week, and 1 January 2027 is both an official holiday and a Friday, the start of the Bahraini weekend. Expect the busiest roads, restaurants and hotel lobbies on Thursday night and a quiet Friday morning.

Where to watch the New Year fireworks in Bahrain

The BTEA fires from several sites along the Manama waterfront, including The Avenues, Seef, Bahrain Harbour, Bahrain Bay and Bahrain Marina, synchronised so viewers see one panoramic show. Locations for 31 December 2026 are announced in December, and the waterfront areas below have been part of the plan in recent years.

Bahrain Bay and the Four Seasons

Bahrain Bay is the modern waterfront district at the heart of the display. The Four Seasons Hotel Bahrain Bay sits on its own island in the bay, so its restaurants and terraces look out over the fireworks from several sides. That makes its New Year's Eve dinners some of the most sought-after tickets of the night.

If a hotel table is outside your budget, Bahrain Bay Beach is a public viewing point for the same show. Arrive early: access roads get busy after 10 pm, and parking fills quickly. Couples and photographers like this spot; book hotel dinners from early December, or be on the beach by 10:30 pm.

Bahrain Harbour and the World Trade Center

Bahrain Harbour, beside the Bahrain Financial Harbour towers, and the Bahrain World Trade Center, with its three wind turbines between the twin towers, have both been used as launch sites. Restaurants in this area offer terraces with views back towards the bay, and it is within walking distance of several large hotels.

This is a good choice if you are staying in central Manama and want to avoid driving after midnight. Book a terrace table ahead and you get the skyline and the bay in one view.

Seef and The Avenues

The Seef district, with its large malls and hotels, and The Avenues Bahrain, a waterfront mall beside Bahrain Bay, both hosted part of the show. These are the easiest places for families: there are toilets, food courts and indoor space to warm up, and The Avenues promenade faces the water directly.

Expect crowds and long queues for car parks. Arriving early and eating at the mall before the countdown is the simplest plan with children.

Bahrain Marina and the bridges

Bahrain Marina and the coastline between the Shaikh Hamad and Shaikh Isa bin Salman bridges, which link Manama with Muharraq, give viewers a different angle. This area suits people staying near the airport or in Muharraq, the old pearling town whose heritage trail is a good daytime outing on 1 January.

Roads across the bridges are busy before and after midnight, so allow extra time if you plan to drive. The Pearling Path, inscribed by UNESCO in 2012, runs about 3.5 km from the Bu Mahir seashore to the Siyadi complex in central Muharraq, linking 17 historic buildings, including the Siyadi family mosque and majlis, so it is easy to walk in a morning.

Hotel parties and galas in Manama

Hotels are where most of Bahrain's ticketed New Year parties take place. Large international properties in Manama, Seef and Bahrain Bay run gala dinners, poolside parties and club nights, and prices vary from a set dinner to all-night packages with drinks. Unlike in Kuwait or Qatar, alcohol is served in licensed venues, which is why many party-goers from across the Gulf choose Bahrain for New Year.

Book through the hotel directly or through the main event ticketing platforms that sell Bahrain events, and check the minimum age, dress code and whether the venue has a view of the fireworks. Tables with a clear line of sight to the bay are always the first to go.

Read the package carefully before paying. Gala prices are quoted in Bahraini dinars and usually per person, and the same hotel may sell several tiers: a soft-drinks dinner, a dinner with a house-drinks package, and a separate late club night. Ask whether tax and service are included, whether children are admitted to the main ballroom, and what time the drinks package ends. Bahrain's legal drinking age and venue door policies apply, so carry photo ID. If a promised fireworks view is part of the price, ask which show it faces, as Bahrain's displays have been spread over several sites with no single central point.

New Year's Eve plan for Bahrain

A weekend in Manama over New Year

  • 31 Dec day, Bab Al Bahrain and the souk: Explore Manama Souq through Bab Al Bahrain, then visit the Bahrain National Museum before it closes for the evening. Opened in 1988 on a peninsula facing Muharraq, next to the National Theatre, its Hall of Dilmun Graves contains a burial mound moved from A'ali and rebuilt indoors.
  • 31 Dec eve, Dinner with a view: Arrive at your dinner venue by 9 pm. Stay put for the ten-minute midnight show; moving between sites wastes time.
  • 1 Jan, Muharraq: Walk the Pearling Path in Muharraq, a UNESCO World Heritage site, and stop for traditional sweets.
  • 2 Jan, Beaches or the fort: Visit Qal'at al-Bahrain, the ancient fort site, or spend the day at a beach resort. The fort mound, about 6 km from Manama on the north coast, was settled from around 2300 BC and became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2005; late afternoon light over the ruins and the sea is the best time for photographs.

Where to stay for New Year's Eve in Bahrain

The fireworks and drones in Bahrain are spread across several sites, so the best hotels are those with a view of one of them. Bahrain Bay is the most dramatic base: hotels there look out over the water where the main show takes place, and rooms facing the bay sell out first. Around Bahrain Harbour and the World Trade Center, hotels in the Manama business district are within walking distance of the waterfront.

Seef, near The Avenues, is a good mid-range option with malls, restaurants and an easy drive to the viewing points. Juffair is popular with visitors who want bars and late nightlife, but it is a short taxi ride from the main fireworks sites. Book a room in the hotel hosting your gala if you plan to drink, as Bahrain enforces drink-driving laws strictly.

Muharraq, across the bridges, is the practical base for anyone on a short stopover, because Bahrain International Airport is on the island and the Pearling Path is within walking or short taxi distance. Travellers driving in from Saudi Arabia often choose Seef or the western side of Manama, which is the first part of the city reached from the causeway. Wherever you book, check whether the hotel has added a minimum stay or a compulsory gala supplement for 31 December, and read the cancellation terms before paying.

What New Year's Eve in Bahrain costs

Prices are in Bahraini dinars, one of the strongest currencies in the world, so convert carefully when comparing a gala in Manama with one in Dubai or Doha. The free option is genuinely free: the fireworks and drone shows have been staged over public waterfronts, and the promenades at Bahrain Bay and the malls in Seef cost nothing beyond food and parking. Spending rises quickly with drinks, because drinks in licensed hotels, bars and restaurants are priced well above shop prices. Daytime sightseeing is inexpensive by comparison: walking the Pearling Path in Muharraq is free, and the souq and Bab Al Bahrain need nothing but time. On a short trip, the hotel room for 31 December is usually the single largest cost, so book it first and build the rest of the budget around it.

Practical tips for New Year in Bahrain

  • Apply for an eVisa early. Many nationalities can get an eVisa or a visa on arrival, others need more paperwork. Use the official Bahrain eVisa portal and apply well before the holiday.
  • Plan your ride home. Roads around Bahrain Bay and the bridges are slow around midnight. Stay close to your viewing spot or pre-book a car.
  • Drink only in venues. Alcohol is served in licensed hotels and bars. Drinking in public places is not allowed, and drink-driving is a serious offence.
  • Dress smart. Hotel parties have dress codes. In public areas, cover shoulders and knees out of respect.
  • Book by early December. Fireworks-view tables and party tickets sell out quickly, especially with visitors arriving from Saudi Arabia.
  • Follow the BTEA. The tourism authority announces show locations and times shortly before New Year. Check its channels and calendar.bh.
