Tom Kitchin's one-MICHELIN-star restaurant in a converted whisky bond on Leith's waterfront, cooking Scottish seafood, game and vegetables with French technique. Plan a long fine-dining meal; it is closed on Sundays and Mondays.
The Kitchin is chef Tom Kitchin's Michelin-starred restaurant at 78 Commercial Quay in Leith, Edinburgh's historic port. Tom and his wife Michaela opened it in June 2006 in a converted whisky bond on the waterfront. It suits diners who want Scottish seafood, game and vegetables cooked with French technique, and who plan a long meal. The Edinburgh Trams line runs to Leith, and a bus or taxi from Princes Street takes 15 to 20 minutes.
Seasonal Scottish produce with French technique
The restaurant's motto is "from nature to plate". Menus follow the Scottish seasons closely, so the shellfish, fish, game and vegetables change through the year. French technique shapes the cooking. There is a tasting menu, a set lunch and à la carte. Lunch guests who arrive before 14:00 can order the tasting menu; later lunch bookings choose from the set lunch or à la carte. Allow more than two hours.
The Michelin star held since 2007
The Kitchin earned its Michelin star within months of opening and has held one since the 2007 guide. The Scotsman reported that it kept the star in the 2026 Michelin Guide. Prices are at fine dining level.
Eating and walking in Leith
Leith has become one of Edinburgh's best areas for eating out, with other well-regarded restaurants along the Shore. A walk along the Shore and the Water of Leith fills the time before or after a booking.
