In short

Classic Japanese fine dining on the 24th floor of The Okura Prestige Bangkok, serving kaiseki, sushi and teppanyaki from breakfast to dinner and listed in the MICHELIN Guide Bangkok. Private rooms, takeaway and delivery are available.

Yamazato is a Japanese kaiseki restaurant on the 24th floor of The Okura Prestige Bangkok, in the Park Ventures Ecoplex at the corner of Wireless and Phloen Chit roads. It serves seasonal kaiseki, sushi and teppanyaki from breakfast to dinner and suits diners who want classic Japanese fine dining in central Bangkok, from a business lunch to a long anniversary dinner.

Yamazato is a branch of the original restaurant that opened at the Hotel Okura Tokyo in 1962, and it came to Bangkok with the hotel in 2012. Master chef Shigeru Hagiwara supervises the kitchen, and the restaurant has been listed in the Michelin Guide Bangkok since the guide's first Thai edition in 2018. The hotel has direct access to BTS Phloen Chit, and diners reach the restaurant by lift from the Park Ventures lobby.

The à la carte menu is built on kaiseki ryori, the centuries-old form of Japanese haute cuisine in which the season sets each course and the diner follows it. Alongside the main dining room there is a sushi bar stocked from Toyosu market, two teppanyaki tables served as Sazanka, and private rooms including a tatami room where shoes are removed at the door.

Kaiseki sets change on the first of each month and the restaurant marks the Japanese festival calendar with dedicated lunch and dinner menus through the year. Lunch is the gentler introduction: kaiseki sets open at ฿1,700++, while bento, yakizakana gozen and una jyu keep a typical lunch closer to ฿1,000 a head. Dinner kaiseki runs to nine courses over about two and a half hours. The hotel lists lunch from 11:30 to 14:30 and dinner from 18:00 to 22:30 daily; a Japanese breakfast set has also been offered from 06:00, so ask the hotel if you want it. Sushi Yamazato serves dinner from 18:30 and Teppanyaki Sazanka from 18:00 to 22:30.

The room seats 62 across the main floor, eight at the sushi counter and six in each private room. Bookings open 30 days ahead, and the counter seats usually go first. Vegetarian, gluten-free and shellfish-free versions of the full course are prepared with 24 hours' notice, since the house dashi is fish-based and has to be rebuilt from kombu; the kitchen cannot adjust it at the pass.

Online requests can take up to 24 hours to confirm, so phone +66 2 687 9000 for a same-week table. Yamazato appears in the MICHELIN Guide Thailand 2025, and the sushi counter offers a kaiseki omakase in premium and regular versions.

Restaurant policy

Yamazato takes special requests at the time of booking: add yours in the reservation form.

Check availability
Service hours

Breakfast 06:00 – 10:30, lunch 11:30 – 14:30 and dinner 18:00 – 22:30, daily. Teppanyaki at Sazanka runs at dinner only.

Last orders are taken 45 minutes before the end of each service. The kitchen cannot start a full kaiseki course after that point.

Reservations

Bookings open 30 days in advance. The eight sushi counter seats and the two teppanyaki tables are released at the same time and are usually taken first, so request them when you book rather than on arrival.

Tables are held for 15 minutes past the reserved time. After that the seat may be released to the waiting list, particularly for the second dinner seating.

Cancellation & deposits

Cancel free of charge up to 6 hours before the booking. Inside that window the reservation is treated as a no-show.

Parties of eight or more, private rooms and festival menus are held with a card. A no-show or a cancellation on the day is charged at ฿1,000 per person. Set-menu deposits are deducted from the final bill.

Dress code

Smart casual. Collared shirts and closed shoes are expected at dinner.

Shorts, beachwear, sleeveless tops and sandals are not permitted in the evening. Shoes are removed before entering the tatami room, so socks are worth wearing.

Allergies & dietary needs

Vegetarian, vegan, halal, gluten-free and shellfish-free versions of the full course are prepared with 24 hours' notice.

The house dashi is fish-based, so a vegetarian course is rebuilt on a kombu stock rather than adjusted dish by dish. This cannot be arranged at the table.

Raw fish is served throughout the sushi and kaiseki menus. Tell us at booking if anyone in the party is pregnant or immunocompromised and the kitchen will substitute cooked courses.

Children

Children of all ages are welcome in the main dining room and the private rooms. A shorter children's course is available on request.

High chairs are provided at no charge. The sushi counter seats are high stools without backs and are not suitable for young children.

Beverages & corkage

The sake list is arranged by region and the monthly pour changes with the kaiseki menu. Pairings are offered alongside every set course.

Outside wine and sake are accepted at the manager's discretion with a corkage fee of ฿1,500 per 750ml bottle, limited to two bottles per table.

Accessibility

The restaurant is on the 24th floor and reached by lift from the Park Ventures Ecoplex lobby. The main dining room and both private rooms are step-free.

The tatami room has a raised floor with a single step. Accessible bathrooms are on the same floor. Let us know at booking so a suitable table is set aside.

Photography & conduct

Photographs of your own table are welcome. Flash, tripods and filming other guests are not, and the counter chefs will ask you to stop.

Phone calls should be taken outside the dining room. Smoking, including vaping, is not permitted anywhere on the floor.

Prices & payment

All prices are quoted in Thai baht and are subject to 10% service charge and 7% VAT, shown as ++ on the menu.

JCB and PromptPay QR are accepted at the table. Bills can be split across a maximum of four cards.

General

The dinner kaiseki runs through sakizuke, hassun, an owan clear broth, sashimi from the Toyosu delivery, a charcoal-grilled yakimono course, a simmered dish, rice with pickles and miso, and a wagashi sweet with matcha whisked at the table. The composition changes on the first of each month and follows the Japanese festival calendar.
